I was recently advised of this forum and decided to hop in. Browsing the threads reminds me of this industry about 18 years ago.
From what I've been told, I am an old timer in this industry. This is my 39'th year in motorfuel work, ranging all the way from standard garage type maintenance, fleet management, college, educator, prototype product design engineer, fleet conversions, diagnostics and troubleshooting, and finally, back to research and education. I have worked for and with most of the major players in the industry and was a trainer on Impco and GM in the early 90's.
I actually got my start with CNG, then added LPG to my list. Texas is unique in that we have the nations largest amount of Natural Gas storage and production, but have the lowest number of CNG vehicles per capita. I call myself a fuel neutral individual, all have their place, and each has its own unique advantages, and equal dis-advantages.
I offer my opinion in an honest and frank manner, trying to balance the playing field. For many readers, lets just simply say that I've been there and done that. I've seen the worst junkyard conversions using discarded oxygen and nitrogen cylinders, welding shop regulators, household low pressure regulators, mixers made from PVC and even a few from plywood(!), and brakeline tubing for fuel lines.
I get phone calls and e-mails regularly from individuals wanting fuel systems but hesitate when we start getting to specifics. This is a topic for a new thread, but for now, lets just say that I'm glad to be here and will add my two cents worth when I can.
