  • Looking for Mike Stone of Alternate Fuel Systems (TX)

    I'm hoping someone here knows Mike Stone (Alternate Fuel Systems Automotive, Austin TX). I have lost touch with him and his business number has changed. I'm not even sure if his shop is open anymore. If you know how I might reach him, I'd be very grateful for that information.
    Thank you!

    I would also like to find qualified CNG installation facilities in Texas, all major metro areas.

      Mike has moved away and closed his shop. His phone number also has been disconnected. He sent a resume out to the local Clean Cities people, but it did not contain ANY contact info, not even an address, e-mail link, or good number.

      I do not know anyone who has seen him either.

      For what its worth, Texas has not been a strong CNG state. With the exception of the Dallas area, there are but a handful of refueling stations. There is one in Austin, none in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Waco, Brownsville, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo, or Texarkana. There is, I think, around 4 in Houston and from what I've been told, about 14 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. There is for all purposes, no conversion activity in Texas with the exception of BAF in Dallas and they are concentrating on transit vans and some utility trucks, and some Crown Vic's.

      Not too long ago, I saw a couple of CNG Honda's with less than 30,000 miles sell for about half of what the comparable gasoline model did, and the main reason was that they could not get fuel dependably, even with a fuel maker available.

          Stations in Texas:
          In Corpus Christi, there is one, but it is operated by the Gas Utility company. In the three times I tried to purchase fuel there, there was:

          1) No one there who would refuel my vehicle;
          2) They would not sell fuel to a private citizen;
          3) The station was down, low on pressure, around 900 psig.

          This is also a very similar situation to many other municipality owned gas services. Many of them just do not have the process to sell to the general public.
