      Re: Conversion Training Schools

      Bruce et al,

Well, Francis Tuttle Vo Tech (405-717-4333) in Oak City used to have an alt. fuel program. You might give them a call.

In CA there are several. Call:
      Cal Macy
      Project Director
      Advanced Transportation Technology Center
      Long Beach City College
      1305 E. Pacific Coast Hwy. 90806
      562/938-3067 fax 562/938-3161

p.s. if you tell him I gave you his name it'll probably cost more!

Beyond that, here are some national intitutions from the CVEF website:

      AFV International LLC
      (740) 205-2107
      Natural Gas Vehicle Institute
      Contact: Leo Thomason (800-510-6484)
      Advanced Transportation Technology
      Contact: Cal Macy (562-938-3067)
      Phoenix Energy
      Contact: Steve Bouchillon (205-453-0241)

Good luck and congrats on wanting to get training!

        Re: Conversion Training Schools

I just joined this forum, after Curtis contacted our CEO to join our EnergyTalk Radio as a guest. Hope to hear from anyone who wants to help expand the infrastructure for filling stations and tech schools.

Watch the Pickens movie from the SLC Web cast, where the Govner of Ut talks about the conversion of his Suburban to CNG! Forum held on nine/eleven...safer to build filling stations instead of pipelines IMHO.

We are NFPA-52 OK state certified and are setting up a CNG training facility in Tulsa, OK. It should be up and running in a couple of weeks. For right now I will keep everyone posted! Thanks. Lets all keep up the good work in getting the word out about CNG.

Here are my links on conversions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...dCL6lAhBc/edit
Some training is on the list. Check with Jim Younkin at younkincng.com in if you are near Utah. There is a community college training there also.

Bruce, it would help us if we knew where you were and how far you are willing to travel for training. Once we have that info, it will be easier to direct you to facilities in your region. Same goes for you, James.

curtis my thoughts would be more on the quality of the training way more than the travel. if you are going to spend your hard earned money for training than you want to spend it on the best. you can jump on a plane and be anywhere in this country in just a few hours for just a few dollers. if you are going to spend the big money for traing whats a few more dollers to get the best.I used to try and save money buy driving but anymore I fly whenever I dont need more than my small tool box. and with the price of gasoline or even cng I find it is cheaper to fly much lees what my time is worth

                  Re: Conversion Training Schools

I agree, Cowboy. Quality training and certified / accredited programs are of key importance. I was simply trying to determine where (geographically) the inquirer was. Good programs exist around the country, as do the hacks. You should know me well enough to know I would not refer anyone to a non-accredited program, or one run by those of dubious nature/qualifications.

Some programs provide a certificate upon completion, which may not be worth the paper its written on. Universities and junior colleges offer both accredited and non-accredited courses. Accredited courses are far and few between and require taking classes over a longer period of time. This is by far and away the most solid type of training. Everything else assumes a level of training somewhat less detailed and technical than that.

I'm not saying any particular course is a bad thing. It just depends on what you want out of it. If your happy with a 3 day course on conversions and a certificate to show people you were trained... good luck with that. Would you rather have your car worked on by an ASE certified mechanic, or a non certified mechanic... or a guy with a college degree in automotive technology? There are good and bad among all those groups, but the idea of more stringent qualification programs is to weed out the hacks and wannabe's.
