  • CNG Honda GX in the 2008 Bull Run 3000 miles on CNG

I have submitted my application for the 2008 Bull Run. For those that don't know what this is, think Cannonball run. 7 day, 7 cities, and 3000 mile race across the US. I plan on participating in this race with a modified Civic GX with a 1250 mile range. I plan on modifying the car at my expense to prepare it for the race. But need sponsorship help to come up with the $17,500 entry fee. Please post ideas for sponsorship. If I am not selected as one of the 100 drivers all the sponsorship funds will be returned. I don't actually plan on winning the race in a GX. I will be up against Ferrari's and Lamborghini's. I want to bring natural gas awareness to people in a big way. As long as the rules allow sponsor banners can be posted on my GX while I make this drive. The event will be televised. I plan on approaching Clean Energy and Fuelmaker for support, and any others this forum can come up with.

How about OPW, Stabli, Clean Energy, Hanover, Xebec, Trillium, Pinnacle, Swagelok. Parker, ANGI International, Greenfield, Pneumatic Products and IMW Atlas. There is also Honda of America. Good luck Murph.

Murf, I'll talk to Honda tomorrow. What year GX and where the hell did you stuff all the tanks? You say "modified", in what way beyond the added tanks?

Will be a 2005 or a 2006. It will mostly depend on if I have an 06 or newer in inventory. 1 extra tank in the trunk, the rear seat removed for 3 tanks to me mounted vertically at a slant. We will have police scanners, radar detector, internet access. Might play with the rear end gearing to try to gain a few MPG since for most of this race the car will be running 85-100 mph. If there is a substantial gain with the hydrid wheels, we'll do that aswell, but at 100 mph I will probably opt for max traction instead.

This was my proposal sent to Honda of North America. I am allowing them first rights at sponsorship as they may sponser the entire car. But if they do not or only take partial sponsorship the following will be available to anyone.

            $8000 HOOD
            $1250 ROOF
            $1250 REAR DECK LID
$2000 ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE FENDER AND 1/4 PANEL
$2000 ENTIRE LEFT SIDE FENDER AND 1/4 PANEL
            $1000 FRONT BUMPER
            $1000 REAR BUMPER
$1000 PLACEMENT IN FRONT OF INTERNET CAMERA (WE WILL BE BRAODCASTING LIVE OVER THE INTERNET DURING THE RACE)

$100 3x6 vinyl sticks to be placed on c-pillars, leading front door edges, trailing front bumper edge, and leading rear bumper edge. This amount is above the amount I need to enter the race but will help me offset the $8000 I am coming out of pocket for the tanks and doesn't include the electronics, performance and aerodynamic upgrades.

For any one sponsor that picks up the entire cost of entry $17.500 you will have rights to the team name and uniform (nice polo with your logo) otherwise by default the team name will be "Team CNG Motors. Press and publications will be refering to teams by team names. Spike TV is televising the entire race.

If I am not selected as one fo the 100 drivers 100% of your sponsorship money will be returned to you.

Don't forget AMD. You'll need some computing power. They already sponsor the robot car events.
