What do you do with expired tanks?

OK, I have six years to go on the one in our car, but what does one DO with the thing? It's got to hold about 20 gallons!

Can you fill it with propane and use it to make a SUPER Bar-B-Q?

Is it contaminated on the inside so you can't use it for water?

How about using it with helium for baloons or C02 for air rifles?

Is there a salvage value to them?

Well, you could cut them long ways and have a couple of "horse troughs"

But you should check out Sec.9 of CGA C6.4. (2007) "... the container shall be rendered incapable of further service by appropriate methods." Then if you look at appendix "C" on page 30, it tells you to drill a couple of 1/2" holes in the side wall, AFTER properly VENTING and PURGING the tank with nitrogen or other inert gas (to prevent it from going "boom")

Off the record, if it is an aluminum cylinder strip off the overwrap and sell the cylinder after screwing up the valve port and drilling a couple of holes (AFTER properly VENTING and PURGING the cylinder).

You could do the Carhenge routine with them.

In this neck of the woods they would also be fair game to be converted into BBQ (that means PIG in North Carolina) cookers. Slit one in half, put hinges on the back, get a rack and/or a spit for your shoulder/whole carcass, then take the axle off of whatever's on blocks behind the barn (if it's in front of the house, it's still a fixer-upper) so you can tow it down the road and cook pig all night elsewhere.

Ya think maybe we should move this discussion to the lounge? Oh yeah, we're already there. Gotta be more careful about the extra ingredients in my iced tea.............urp

After you clean them out dump about 2# of crushed dryice then seal them back up (dryice to make sure they can't go kaboom) make a platform about 10'X12' strap the tanks to the bottom,put put a little shack on it,float it out in the lake.You now have a lodge for the redneck Yacht club...............

Now Andy -Paul than depends on weather your brother's second wife's uncle is related to your second cousin's father who is the lawyer who married your second wife's sister from her mothers forth marriage,in which her forth husband might be the judge.

Now Andy -Paul than depends on weather your brother's second wife's uncle is related to your second cousin's father who is the lawyer who married your second wife's sister from her mothers forth marriage,in which her forth husband might be the judge.

It's not quite that bad. My brother's 2nd wife's stepfather used to be the exterminator for our neighborhood before my brother and his first wife went splitsville. I have no second cousins in NC--they are all out in places like North Dakota (my parents got smart and got the heck out of blizzard country!). The JP who married my brother the second time IS related to the second wife's family because of his illegitimate grandfather, but that is still pretty clean for eastern NC. The uncle in question is one of those guys who just never figured out that marriage doesn't mean free laundry and sex on demand. Still, there may be hope for him yet. He didn't take the third honeymoon during deer season and tell his drinking buddies where the honeymoon hotel was...(I wish I was making that one up, I really do. If that isn't proof positive that some people are just too dumb to be let out without a keeper, I don't know what is.....)

1. It doesn't matter whether you meet him/her at a family reunion. It just matters whose family reunion. As it turns out I met her at one of her family reunions, not mine.

2. West Virginia certainly has its spots where that sort of activity is an issue, but so does every other state in the nation. I have seen it in IA, eastern WA, and more places in the northeast than I care to remember.

3. I'm going to do something very unusual and shut up now.
