  • Our database barfed - lost some posts, sorry!

    Gang,
During the past week we encoutered a few database errors which resulted in the loss of some posts and threads, including the popular "Where to buy one" thread that I started waaaaaay back when we first put this site up on the Internet last fall. Sorry about that. We try to keep everything running smoothly but Mr. Murphy strikes every now and again...

cron a nightly db backup overwriting the previous one and you would, at most, only lose ~24hr.

--edit: It would appear that you do not have the option of cron'ing backup ...

or just dump it nightly maybe rotating 3 or 4 files.
The nightly backup will bkup the dump. We did this on Sybase.

You will need cron or a substitute to automate the process.

This is for MySQL but the idea is the same for most RDBs.

base64.co.uk is available for purchase. Get in touch to discuss the possibilities!
