  • Another non piston method gas compressor

Linde North America, a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company, is introducing ionic compression systems for hydrogen for lift refueling in North America. Linde has used the Ionic Compressor system extensively in Europe for cars and buses. Unlike conventional mechanical systems, the Ionic Compressor uses...

What other "non piston" designs are out there?

Radial screw, diaphram, hydraulic cylinder and pneumatic (air or gas) cylinder.
      I'm sure there are others.

funny how they don't say what will be pressurizing the fluid... for the pressures needed, it will likely be a radial screw or piston positive displacement pump, so the argument of less mechanical wear is moot. The advantage of these fluid-to-medium compressors is they keep the compressed gas completely oil free, and minimize/eliminate any sort of gland leakage problems.
