  • Cavalier runs out of fuel, causes freeway backup

A few days ago, I got stuck in traffic and noticed there was a tow truck in the far left lane. Just as I got up to it, I noticed a beige Cavalier with a CNG decal about to pull away and the tow truck driver with a gasoline can. The car had a new plate, not a State exempt plate. The driver quickly exited on the next off ramp. I really hope his gas gauge was malfunctioning because I can't understand why anyone running low on fuel would drive in the far left lane with no shoulder.

Lesson learned (hopefully): Always have at least 1/4 tank of gasoline!!!

always good to travel with 1/4 tank of gasoline regardless, most CNG bi-fuel systems allow the gasoline pump to run while on CNG if you run it on dry you will burn it up, Chevy's are very sensitive to this.

Chevy, like Ford, recommends that you run a tank of gasoline through the car every 60 days.

I've seen tow trucks pulling dedicated cng vehicles into the cng pumps several times, but I've never seen a dual fuel run out. That's just sad.

Maybe it was like that episode of Seinfeld when Kramer was with the car salesman and they were pushing the needle....haha.

It almost happened to me the other day. No time to stop at the CNG pump when you're late for an appointment

I've heard that if you run out, wait 10 to 15 minutes to allow the gas to warm up, you might get another 7 or 8 miles out of it
