  • Oil billionaire Pickens and NGVs & UTs Low Pressure

    This was on CNN.com

Billionaire oilman T. Boone Pickens is putting his clout behind renewable energy sources like wind power.

Push crtl + f and put in "natural gas" to find the references...there are several.

    In other news...

UT is low on pressure...as if we didn't notice:

You might not be so envious of your friends who have those natural gas-fueled cars after all.

Yep, just saw commercial today 7/8/08 on cable TV where T Boone Pickens was touting wind power, along with domestic natural gas, as solution to oil imports that were 20% in 1970, then 42% in 1990 and now over 70%. T Boone said in commercial that he would offer more information later on the solution . . . my guess is nationwide rollout of natural gas, and have USA carmakers sell cng cars. I hope this really happens, but we still MUST keep Clean Energy from overcharging cng customers.

Let's see. Really cheap fuel. Cars flooding into the state. Not much of a surprise. They can't even keep the pressure up at some stations in So Cal. A home pump is really the way to go for day to day CNG.

freedml, what you don't understand is that in Utah, the price of CNG at the pump is cheaper than the price at your home. It is about 30 cents per gallon cheaper, because Questar passes part of the 50 cent/gal tax credit onto the user. Their price is set by the PSC.

Now, I don't want to get off topic, Boone Pickens was also on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric last night talking about his "Pickens Plan".

What YOU don't understand is that 500psi CNG at $.85 is a LOT more expensive than 3600 psi CNG at any price because it means you can't drive the car
(if it's dedicated, or you end up using gasoline if it's bifuel).

This problem is likely to get worse in Utah.

I use my home pump as much as possible now because it's a lot less expensive. When the prices were closer, I still used it a lot, but I would fill at public stations whenever it was CONVENIENT.
