  • Shameless Plug For The GX

The "Daily News of Los Angeles" has an article today on how people are trading in their gas guzzlers to buy smaller more economical cars.

I decided to add a shameless plug for the Civic GX in the comment section at the bottom of the page.

    The article is at http://www.dailynews.com/ci_9164539?source=rss

I really like Honda vehicles, but would never personally buy a GX... for one reason, it is not bifuel.

There is too much uncertainty about fuel pricing outside of Ut/OK and fuel availability everywhere to drop 25K on a local use only econobox. Unless the OEMs get back into the game, conversion will be the only way to play.

ch4, I raised you one. I added a link to the forum.

rtry9a, you don't get a Civic GX to drive around the country, you get it for commuting.

I agree ours is primarily used for local commuting and it's working out perfect for my family. I have 3 gas guzzlers, 2 Land Rovers and a Volvo XC90 and now the GX is first one out of the driveway everytime. You could say I have Bi-vehicles, the GX for local and the 3 pigs for long trips. I figure the money I save with the local driving helps offset the long drive fuel costs.

IMHO, conversions are just too cost prohibitive.

Isn't that kind of like the way they want to trade carbon credits??.............. Your work day savings covers for the weekend fun!

All our vehicles are CNG, but the dedicated stay local and we use the bifuels out of town since sometimes we don't
know where in Arizona we will end up in a day depending who has a FuelMaker needing help.

Without incentives a conversion is a stretch for anyone. Thats why the used NGV market has gone sky high!

Im so happy you are happy about your limits... Actually, Im a bit biased- Being 6'5", I really don't care for small cars like the Civic or our Accord, but consider it a very well-made car that the wife likes.

I use my bifuel F150 for hauling, commuting, trips outside of the city, cross-country (outside the state), and for heavy duty vacationing (towing). I don't need to keep, and pay insurance for, a bunch of special use vehicles.

Cheap used OEMs are a luxury of our recent past and replacement parts for them are drying up. Prices have doubled in the last year alone. IMHO, conversions are the only future ... unless things change.

                Nice off-road Rovers...

The trouble with having a cheap natgas pickup is that the kids keep borrowing it.

Im not against toys... I keep an old CJ-5, a 30' camper trailer, and 500hp twin-turbo Mustang Cobra as funtime vices too.

Nice collection you have there, one thing I'm lacking is a little speed

To get back on the topic.....

I have to admit at one point I looked into the trade in value of one of my Rovers and decided to keep her for now as it wasn't worth it. Both my Rovers are now designated special weekend rides. IMHO every home in America should have an econo box of some sort for daily commuting, better yet a CNG vehicle. I think as a society we are a little spoiled with convinience, hence the reason people shy away from CNG or any alternative fuel. My reasons were simple, saving cummute time and money, helping the envirorment (plus my kids think it's cool), promoting alternative fuel and awarness....ok I'm sick of OPEC and foreign reliance too

Not sure if it was you, but a John that posted a link thinks our site is "cngtalk", not cngchat. It's ok though, I added one for chat and cngprices. It's just too bad that there aren't any cars to buy now.

Exactly! My "special use" vehicles are a '73 'Cruiser and a '93 Cruiser.

                          Nice collection of FJ's

I grew up being around Cruisers growing up, but after looking for a 91 model and seeing the prices at the time. I decided to step up and get a new Land Rover Discovery, been a Rover nut ever since. Can't go wrong with either trucks as they are both very capable off roaders, same as the Jeeps.

                          Have you seen these...holy smokes!
