Oh that's weird. In the emailed version of your post all of the intermediate calculations are there.

Ok, so they're paying $2.20 to $2.40/GGE for gas and charging up to $2.99. What do you think a reasonable gross profit margin would be? Given what I assume is low volume at most of the stations, I'm not sure $0.60 to $0.80/GGE is not a reasonable gross profit.

To give an idea of how CE is making a killing right now, here is a chart of the spot price of the commodity. And, yes, that is a 44% price drop since July 1st.

Profits will vary depending on the entity. CE is going to go for all they can get away with, where the schood district charges enough to cover the maintenance on the system + costs. Who's to say what's reasonable. Most business that I was involved with over the years felt 40% was a reasonable number. I can tell you that compressor maintenance is very expensive and only marginally predictable.

It's funny how my local pump changes the price on the pump every month, but the actual cost has remained at 2.194 since February. I think it was at 2.47 for August.

You could tell them about the glitch, or are you going to wait and see if gas actually drops below $2.19?

Well it's at 2.434 now so if/when the pump reads below 2.194 I will call them.

                  Curtis-

Good job, they must have heard you, 10 cents less the last time I filled up... woohoo! Now keep ranting maybe they will knock another 20 cents off to get it back to the old typical high price ratio with unleaded I was enjoying earlier in the year. Unfortunately I am mostly dependent on CE, the latest price gouging is making a FM more justified of a purchase for me.

Everybody who cares probably knows what CE has been charging but I attached a chart of what I have been paying anyway. I pulled the data off my speadsheet. The few weird spikes are when I was lucky enough to be near a non CE station.

To be fair the price increases do seem to lag behind the unleaded market prices so the proper readjustment/decease can follow suit but it does seem a bit unbalanced still, but I am biased I suppose.

You need to add two more tracks on your graph. Overlay CE's average pump price, and the average non-CE pump price over the same period. Should be very telling. If you can't get the back data, start a new graph. Interestingly, spot prices are back to what they were a year ago when prices were below $2/gge.

Not sure why but City of Placentia is charging $2.79 now
Which is how much 87 unleaded is at costco.

Looks like gas is dropping much faster than CNG.
