  • Towing to the nearest CNG station courtesy of Honda

    OK Curtis,

So I’m finally getting around to reading some of the material on the my new GX. On that extended warranty, (page 3, paragraph C, of the “Vehicle Service Contract”) it talks about free towing for mechanical breakdowns or getting emergency fuel delivery… so do you think that would also cover free towing to the closest CNG station? The contract doesn’t really address such GX issues. However, it is a pertinent question for a lot of us and I know you could probably get us an answer. Has anybody out there ever tested this particular benefit? I hope I never have to use such a service but in case my wife has takes the car out… you know how things go… just wondering.

Since fuel delivery is included if they can't bring the fuel to you they have to take you to the fuel.

I had no problems getting a tow to the next station.
Just called the 800# and about 1 hour later I filled up.

After doing some more digging, the "official answer" to your question is yes. You would call Cross Country Services, who provides the Honda Care Warranty roadside assistance, at 1-800-594-7400. As they are not equipped to deliver cng to you... they will deliver you to the fuel.

Sorry for the earlier misinformation. That's what I get for listening to management. I called Honda direct for this one.

Hey that’s great Curtis. Thanks for digging up the “right answer.” That’s cool.

I see that’s the roadside assistance on my window (800-594-7400). So that helps, I hope if my wife ever needs it she’ll figure it out. I’ll just have to remind her to take the cell phone. So now I’ll just need to train her up on changing a tire… but oh, I see that she could call out for free help on that too. I just love Honda!

I suppose I too could get in that trap of running out of CNG if a station I was depending on was not operational when I needed it. Though I hope I never have to use this service it gives me more peace of mind driving a dedicated CNG.

Now I suppose others may be interested in this next question. If you don’t have the extended warranty you don’t get this free roadside assistance do you? Thanks again for getting me squared away right when you sold me this wonderful car!

Had a similar situation - went to fuel up at home one weekend on my FMQ-2, only to find the processor was dead = no ticky, no fuel. I was on E and no blips on the gauge, so did not want to try going 25 miles to the only public fuel station in the Portland area.
Called my insurance company, and they covered the 25 mile tow (under my towing coverage) as I was essentially out of fuel, could not get it at home, and basically stuck in place.
So you might want to get towing coverage if you don't have it - if it will cover this situation...

You're right JT, no Honda Care Warranty, no tow. My advise is: if they try and sell you anything but a Honda Care for your GX... Pass. Don't go for it. The Honda Warranty is more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Oft times it's not more expensive, the dealer just makes less profit on the Honda Care because his cost is more.
