  • Navigation, Bluetooth, Backup Cam, Etc.

For those who have wanted a navigation system, cell phone bluetooth, backup cam, etc., in their Civic GX, I've attached a picture showing that it can be done rather nicely. The installer also put an iPod and USB cord in the glove box so you can just keep your digital music hidden in there if you want without leaving it out in the console. This model is the Kenwood 8120. It works very well.

Also: I didn't even realize it until after I purchased it, but the screen on this also plays DVDs.

I don't know why people are so enamored with factory systems. If they are wired to buttons on the steering column or something like that, then they can be worth it. Otherwise, you can get more system for your 'buck' by having it added afterwards, either by the dealer or a stereo shop.

Looks "factory". Who did your install? Rear speakers?

I have been waiting for the Pioneer F900BT come out:

Funny, I see them on eBay but no local store has them...

            BTW, Nicely done!

Looks great! I have the KVT-715 in mine. It isn't the most intuitine unit I've seen but it does everything and has modules to make it do even more. Mine's a pop-out-flip-up. I like the look of yours much better. Well done. What did it run?

                To answer the questions:

I got new speakers for the front, but didn't have any put in the rear. I know it can be done, but the gas tank makes it more complicated. The factory speakers REALLY suck (and I'm no audiophile... even for talk radio, they're bad).

The Kenwood is about $1100 most places, not including installation, and add a few hundred more for a backup camera.

Also: I got mine and had it installed at Al & Ed's Autosound in Costa Mesa.

Have you had any problems with the unit so far? I am looking at purchasing the same unit. I got a price for everything including all the XM stuff and replacement speakers (6 1/2) for the front for 1700. Good price???

I had the pioneer 700bt installed yesterday with an amp & infinity componenet speakers in the front. Everything is terrific. Huge impact re: overall GX experience. but i do miss back speakers.

Has anyone successfully identified a solution for back speakers? Someone said in an earlier post that it "can be done". I would love to know how...

The installers said...no go for anything in the back and they appeared to be very creative.

If you search the forum there are many installations with photos. Curtis has speakers in the rear doors of his 2004. Not sure which models that is possible. Also suface mount speakers work but they may cut into your rear view.

I had to check to see if they cut into my rear view. Only the slightest bit at the corners.

i have tried searching with minimal success. I saw the pics of the 04, but no mention of any GX's that are newer. i have an 09. I also saw the pic of the surface mount, but they did not look very "powerful" and the few mentions of speaker boxes have no testimony or pics.

I bought the smallest (flattest) speaker boxes i could find and even they do not fit.

Is there other info to review? or am i just not searching properly? (which is entirely possible).

I have been hoping to find a somewhat universally agreed upon approach for getting quality sound in the back.

Here's a few shots of skierrob's 06 upgrade. Haven't heard from him in a while. He had these posted on the gxngv group. The style of the rear doors prevents a speaker install like I have in my 04.
