  • Possible? -Orem to San Francisco

So I am wondering if it is possible to do a Orem to San Fran trip in a stock 1999 Civic GX. I would probably make a stop in Vegas for the night and spen the night in San Fran before coming home. I want to know if it is possible as well as what gas cards (prepaid, etc) I would need to make the drive.

    Thanks for your input!

Use the trip planner on cngprices.com to review your route. It can provide the details for all stations on the route, as well as alternates in the event of a "down" station. I suspect you'll need at least a PG&E card. You can find the forms here: http://cngchat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2448. PG&E will require you to go through a brief training, so plan to discuss this with them in advance. Also call ahead to verify station status just to take into account the "Fudge Factor".

It's very possible. We've done it several times going the other way from SF to Orem.

Like Curtis said, use CNGprices.com to locate the stations, and get a PG&E card.

Barstow can be an issue if you have not used your Visa/MC before at a Clean Energy station. The video training on the Barstow dispenser often is broken so you cannot get the 2 digit code for having viewed the training. Make sure you write this down when filling in Las Vegas!

I just posted in the other thread, missed this one... Maybe the two should be combined?

I have a PG&E card. Hopefully wont have any problems in Barstow with CE.

So you can watch the video in Vegas and then use the code in Barstow?

Also, in the other thread someone said that you can use visa/mc the whole way from bay area to SLC. Do I really need the PG&E card?

            THANKS!

Yes, the Vegas video will provide the code for Barstow too (must use the same credit card). From Barstow you will want to cut over to Bakersfield and the up highway 99. It is risky without a PG&E card as your 1999 GX has limited range the stations accepting credit cards are few and far between. Be sure to read all of the recent comments at CNGprices.com!

My Dad has made that trip several times in his Crown Vic. I'm sure he as higher capacity though. Good luck.

Just did Bay Area - Bountiful in my Honda GX. I have the PG&E Card so the first stations werent a problem.

San Jose - Filled up at PG&E. The only problem with this station is it not open 24 hours.
Los Banos - Found the station without a problem. Just look for PG&E and drive around. Good fill here, 3600+
                  Bakers
Bakersfield - Arrived after dark. It took me three different turn-ins to find this one. I thought it was behind the closed gate so I called on the phone and the person directed me towards the pump. Once again, good fill, 3600+
Barstow - Didnt know if this would be hard to find. Large station, easy to see event at night. Took me a while to figure out how to get it working, first time at this type of station. Good 3600+ fill.
Las Vegas - Saturday Morning. Stopped at the first station, the one on Grand Central Parkway. The barricads were up but drove around and found another entrance Bonniville Ave. Kept driving and arrived at station. Seems the barricads are up to stop the shoppers from parking on the weekend. Got an 'ok' fill, 3000+.
St. George - Arrived to the station, first time using a Questar pump. NICE to see the price under $1! Filled up, got a good fill and the pumps were showing just above 3000 PSI. As I was leaving an Airport Van and Truck pulled up.
Reliable Richfiled - Thought it better to avoid Fillmore and hit Richfield. Got a good fill, paid Cash and bought something (support the station). Talked to the lady and she said it is a very busy station.
Bountiful - Used the 'new' pumps. Nice. 3000+ PSI and used the 3600 PSI hose.

In the end, having the PGE card helped so I didnt have to worry about finding a station with a credit card in Northern California.
