  • CNG stations from Salt Lake to Bay Area?

I'm looking at picking up a used GX -- however it is in SLC in Utah. I'd prefer not to pay almost $1000 to have it shipped to the bay area, so I'm looking for any reports on CNG stations between SLC and San Jose. It looks like most of 80 between SLC and Tahoe lacks stations -- are there alternate routes, or is the station list out of date?

    Thanks
    Gary

It doesn't look like it, you'd have to go down I-15, cross over with CA-58, then go up CA-99 to get back to the Bay Area. I'm sure you could do it for less than $1,000 if you took the Amtrak train (California Zephyr) from Emeryville (8:10am) to Salt Lake City (next day, 4:05am) then drove back on a weekend. It'd be one hell of a trip though

You could also try shopping for a better shipping quote. You can probably cut that in half.

On a plus side, the road trip is a great way to get to know your new vehicle!

A road trip is the LAST place I want to get to know a USED CNG vehicle, especially if I don't personally know every CNG station along the route. Figure the transport price into the purchase price and learn about it close to home.

Need to add a or something to make sure we know. Some people actually do that.

Yea -- that is what I was afraid of -- the $1000 is a ball park figure that I was using for door to door shipping -- I am leaning towards getting the car shipped out... thanks for your comments -- sarcastic or not .-)

                  It's doable

I have done this trip recently. You will need a Haycock Petroleum GASCARD to fill in Vegas (see the Nevada forum), and as you know the PG&E card for Northern California.

                  Edited to add on 11/26/09
Las Vegas stations now accept Visa/MC, no need for the Haycock card anymore.

Looking to do this trip in the next week or so.

Sounds like the best option is Bay Area, 5, Bakersfiled, Victorville, Las Vegas and up on I-15.

From reading, sounds like I am good with Visa/MC on the entire trip up.

Anyone done this trip as of late?

                    Thanks

We have a newer discussion on this route here:

I will close this old thread.
