  • How did everyone like Boone Pickens tonight??

I just got back from the Pickens Plan Town Meeting at the Salt Palace tonight. I think there were about 1,500 people there, I had heard Pickens Plan before but it was good to hear it again and see how many people locally were interested in alternative energy and fuel. The main point I came away with is we need more streamlined regulations for CNG retrofit kits and we need to champion Natural Gas which we produce ourselves instead of Gas which we get mostly from foreign countries which don't ever like us, Jim

I wasn't able to make it, but from what I've heard about his plan it is basically good.

However, I heard that he owns, or is a major stake holder in Clean Energy. Anybody confirm either way on that?

i noticed he danced arround any epa questions. he does'nt have much interest for the little consumer he wants the BIG jobs and the little man will follow. he also did'nt talk about getting big automakers online to provide a showroom ready plan. i think it's like he said when he goes to washington and meets with congressmen then leaves the room the conversation never seemed to happen. i think it's going to take a LONG major shocker to get washington to change, but by then it will be too late. pay off debt and get ready, because here it comes.

That he does. Forget "Pickens Plan" for a moment... Mr Pickens plan appears to become THE dominant player in Natural Gas, the Exxon Mobile of that arena, so to speak. He's also buying up water rights and working on dominating the Wind Energy market.

He scares the heck out of me. If he gets his way, in a few decades a gallon of water will will be as much as a gallon of gas, and he'll have both his hands in both your pockets.

He's a brilliant business man with an eye on the future, and at 82 years old... it looks like he's setting up his heirs to rule the world. Smartest thing to do right now is buy his stock. It's the only chance you'll have in seeing your money again if he gets his way.

In a way I have to agree with Curtis. CNGChat.com has been around for almost a year now. We have seen countless newspaper articles, web articles, etc. about CNG. And we here just shake our heads when these articles get ignored. But T. Boone Pickens comes out with a "plan" to use natural gas for vehicle transportation and everybody is talking about. It seems that when this guy talks, everybody listens. Is it because he is a billionaire? Is it the money that makes people listen? If so, then forget Obama and McCain, Pickens and his businesses (CLNE, etc.) will be "commander and chief" of the free world.

What is the stock company called . . . what is the ticker symbol? Also, how does Chessapeak Energy stack up as a big or future player in the investment game?

Now that's a scary thought, Jared.

CLNE is CE's ticker. Did I read somewhere here that Chesapeake Energy was associated with CE?

Cheasepeak CHK is a good ngas company, UPL is better as a reserve play; Questar is STR. CLNE is speculative, the last run mostly hype from Cramer.

TBP owns approx. 40% of the outstanding shares in CLNE and is the largest single shareowner.

CLNE has nothing to do with the wind energy play, That is Boone and private partners alone. He is not offering any part to the investing world at this time.

The big boys always keep the best part for themselves.

Re: How did everyone like Boone Pickens tonight??

Well, big business is big business. TBP didn't get rich by giving money away. The questions revolve around whether or not he's doing good work, and thus should get our support (i.e., $$$).

As for seeing him speak, I did not. My boss (Happy Miles) was there, and said it was a pretty good little get together. Said he met some interesting folks, including younkin from here.

As more people become interested in alternative energy in general, things should start to change. Legislation changes because of two main influences. First, money, such as what TBP and other large businesses bring to the table. That already seems to be in the works. Second, "we the people" start to ask more questions of our representatives and such, and continue that trend. On rare occasion the people speak first, and the money follows, but not usually.

Overall, CNG is a good idea, and it seems all who look into it agree. Thus, as we all spread the word, others will see the benefits and also look into CNG and other alternative energy sources.

Re: How did everyone like Boone Pickens tonight??

Pickens is a crook plain and simple. So far he is spending millions on an ad campaign for conversions... that nobody can legally get... buying his 50 cent less than gasoline CNG, and basically pushing for a huge monopoly on wind energy. I honestly don't care about his plan. He is buying up water rights, and all that is left is food. He just can't rest until he controls everything we do it seems.

Re: How did everyone like Boone Pickens tonight??

I have issues with alt energy when they require a tax break or subsidy to make sense. Wind, ethanol, biodiesel, and CNG all require tax incentives to even be reasonable.
To get a conversion will cost $5-8K not counting the cost of a vehicle. With mileage being equal the break even using $3.50 gasoline is over 5 years. Unless you plan to run a vehicle 10 plus years or put chingles of miles on a vehicle per year it again does not make sense.
I have been checking into commercial fueling stations in my area there is one station 84 miles away from me.
A LPG conversion is around $2500 out here including a tank. But then you have all the arcane rules for a motor fuel sticker. I have been looking at CNG as a business venture as a installer of fuel systems. From what I have determined you have to have a good base of either GOV vehicles or installers doing quality conversions. The entry price point for the conversion is WAY too high. If the conversions were in the $2-3K range, there was enough conversion work, customer incentive, ease of fueling, AND there was a good fueling infrastructure this would be more attractive.

Lots of folks seem to have trouble with rich people getting richer. It seems to me that I'd rather have my energy dollars going to an American whose business might pay taxes, whose business might be influenced by Congress, and who might inspire American competition in the energy market than have my dollars go to foreign countries that basically hate our guts.

People often get confused when "bad" people happen to get good ideas. I think the Pickens Plan is a good idea from a possibly bad person.

Some people say that Pickens is in it for the money? What are any of us into CNG for, good will? Saving or making money is a good incentive as far as I am concerned, I go to a cheaper station to save money, I shop around like anyone else. Saying the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is typical Liberal phychcobabel, class envy, it is actually a very old Socialist tactic. I for one am happy when someone finds a need and fills it, I hope to make it to the Rich Class some day and I won't feel bad about it, Jim
