  • questar selling compressor stations?

Had a conversation with 2 questar employees yesterday who work in differant parts of the state and the rumor is floating around that they are in the process of selling off the compressor fill up stations to private enterprise... they say that the life of the stations was supposed to be only 10 years back in the 80's when they were installed and they are becoming a maintainence hassle... they (the employees) wonder what this will do to the price of CNG in utah... I do too... will the public service commission still control the price?? does anyone know a state official or PSC official who could shed more light on this situation if it happens? I would hate to see $2.50 fuel like in Vegas and California

Yes, I spoke to someone I know that works for Questar and yes, someone has offered to buy ALL Questar stations and maintain the compressors - if it goes through we will certainly see higher prices at the pump

I assume CE is referring to Clean Energy which has a presence in California. It is not well thought of and is accused of gouging.

If this comes to pass access to the government stations could provide enough competition to keep them in check. There is also the option to install stations at our homes.

I heard CE is taking over Las Vegas stations, anyone know if this is true?
I also read that Las vegas has the largest fleet of NGVs in the US.

I knew something like this could happen - it would really be quite depressing though -

Lets all hope that it doen't happen. If it does the people that are paying 14k for an 02 cavalier will be pissed off. They should have bought a GX. Assuming that NG will no longer be .63-.70. It is hard to justify a cost like that on an older car when the price goes up.

Yes it is true that Clean Energy is taking over the Vegas stations in June. Heard it directly from Haycock Petroleum. Any guess where the current $2.05 price is going to go? Let's hope the rumored Questar bid is not from them as they keep marching northward.

If they do get ahold of questar, guess where our prices are going to go. No doubt increased by 2.00 gallon. Then even your converted impalas may not be worth the purchase price. Which I can still get you for 13k on an 08 with low miles

                      Re: questar selling compressor stations?

Back in early April , I sold my '01 to a Questar employee , and the person told me prices will rise soon . Due to station operation and maintenance costs.

In California, "where all of the oddballs rolled to when the country was tilted to one side"* , the state puc allows about $.79/gge for actual station cost and profit , plus current cost of gas for regulated sempra utility run stations. Come up to about $2.50 , still lower than C.E.

Just curious, can someone in Utah post current residential gas per therm $ , and residential electric k.w. $ cost ?

*the oddball quote was from a Texas co-worker , he's not too impressed with us in California . LOL.

                        Re: questar selling compressor stations?

I dson't have our residential rates at hand, but the NGV tariff is $0.80 per therm or about $1.00 / gge. So if someone were to get into the station business they would be at 68 cents before compressing (50 cent excise credit minus 18 cent federal road tax).

Questar's compressors run on natural gas, so they essentially get free compressing whereas anyone else coming in here would have to factor in that cost too.

                          Re: questar selling compressor stations?

If C.E does take over , they will changeout all of the equipment , except for storage , install the standard C.E double doghouse compressor skid, electric power. They might be able to put a n.g. fuel capstone turbine to offset some of the elec use , and feed to the grid when compresors are off. C. E. just doesn't like I.C. engine compressors. Period.

So if they take over the Vegas station, how are we supposed to fill there? Can we still use the GASCARD or can we now use visa, mc, amex, discover?
You can do anything except light a paper match, on a marshmellow, underwater!

With C.E. , it will depend on the local operating div. In the Los Angeles basin and south , its Visa , M/C ,Voyager , C.E. card. Can't remember if they take FleetStar.

No Discover or amex for sure.
