  • New public CNG at Rifle, CO

See 6/3/10 news that Rifle, CO will be getting a new public CNG pump (late 2010 install) that should be great news for UT folks heading into Denver, CO as the town of Rifle is about half way from last cng pump in UT.

Kudos to town and Shell gas station (and owner Swallow Oil) for getting a large grant to assist in effort.

    See info at:

That is correct! Rifle, Colorado will soon see the arrival of a new CNG station at Swallow Gas station by November 2010. With that said, CNG Conversions Of Colorado ([email protected]) in conjunction with Western Slope Trailer Sales are the only certified CNG installation technicians from Denver to Salt Lake. Please email the above address with any questions or services that we may assist you with!

Looks like an iffy trip from Price, Utah, to Rifle, Colorado at about 225 miles. However, it is very doable from Vernal, Utah to Rifle, Colorado at about 145 miles. With the new station in Vernal, it looks like it will be possible to travel from Salt Lake to the Denver area.

        Congrats on the upcoming station!
There is one going in to Grand Junction too, any idea of the projected open date for that one?

All the Colorado Filling stations require a special card right? No Visa or MC accepted.

For existing Clean Energy (CE . . .aka GE) public refueling sites in Colorado require a "Natural Fuels Card" that is specific for CO only . . . so answer is Yes, only can get public cng in entire state of CO (currently) with a CE/GE card. See my prior posts on this whole monopoly gone amuk!!

Now when Rifle, CO goes live in November 2010, I'd bet they allow all kinds of payments - - - wow, what a concept?!!?? Curious how one station can do it, but ENTIRE STATE of Colorado network of CE/GE stations can't do it??!!?

Not sure about Grand Junction, CO that John mentions above. I hope this site also is a privateer (not CE/GE) as well so that public can use it with just a VISA/MC.

I won't "get started" on CE/GE but look at public stations in state of NY as well and see another monopoly gone amuk there!! . . . . and yet a DIFFERENT CE/GE card with it's own required $100 lifetime deposit that is non-interest bearing and non-refundable until you give it up. And Yes, that NY card from CE/GE only works in NY.

All the CO stations except Denver International Airport require a special Clean Energy card. DIA accepts Visa/MC. The CE card formerly was required in Cheyenne until last week when new a Visa/MC card reader was installed up there.

Correction: I spoke directly to the owner of the new CNG fill station in Rifle, CO and he insisted that they will take all forms of credits cards and does NOT require a CleanEnergy card.

Filled up at both the Grand Junction and Rifle filling stations. Good fills at both. However they are the most I have ever paid for cng

WOW . . . if cngprices.com is correct, the Rifle, CO public cng pump is charging $3.36/gge!!!! That's a crock since that station got a bunch of subsidy money to build the station. That Shell station is fleecing the folks from UT as they try to cross CO. By comparison, regular petrol here in OK is down to $3.49 and cng ranges from $0.78/gge to $1.39/gge. Lowest petrol (regular gas) in region here in OK was $3.33 at Pawhuska, OK !!

The Grand Junction, CO public cng pump listed at $2.59/gge which is high, but tolerable.

Maybe Clean Energy could take over operations at the station to get the price down to the mid $2 dollar range.

We filled up our regular gas tank in Laramie, WY on the way back for 3.24 a gallon. The prices regular gas in the Rifle Colorado area was running about .50 cents more than the 3.36 CNG price.

Like I said, it was a good fill, but it's not really going to motivate people to buy cng cars and things.

To Lakewood in CA . . . . maybe the USA could just DENY any new subsidized pumps by Shell or CE/Greed Energy and have the great folks of OK install AND run them all across the country!!! Then public cng price would be virtually assured to be under $1.50 all across the USA.

Show me any other business which is allowed to fleece customers with OVERCHARGES of 80% to 150% and get away with it??!!?? CE/GE and now this Shell station are doing the cng movement a complete injustice with their price gouging!!

P.S. With the 50 cent subsidy of excise taxes, this Rifle, CO cng site by Shell is really getting total of $3.86/gge which is absurd overcharge!!
