  • Beaumont Unified School District Transportation Yard

My wife sometimes has to work out in Banning, so I went out there and checked out some of the fueling stations in the area. The station in Beaumont is actually quite nice, and looks to be brand new. $2.499/gge. (wasn't expecting that, as cngprices.com was showing $3.81 ... It's been updated now.. ) It has just two dispensers, and unfortunately, both are 3600#. Filled my expedition to 4100#.

It does have the old-style nozzles (T-shaped with the 3-way valve). Seems odd on a new station, as these never seemed as safe to me.

That's good to know, it's not far from me. Do you know if it is open 24/7? I cant seem to find my guidebook.

Yes, it's 24 hour. There's not even a gate that COULD be closed. Like I said, It appears to be brand new, so probably not in the handbook.

I sure is nice to see a new public station (and it was obviously built FOR the public), that isn't run by Clean Energy. (Every indication it is run strictly by the school district.. built with school district and AQMD funds.)

Finally. It was really frustrating to drive to Idyllwild through Banning on the weekend and not be able to top it off before going up the hill (because banning is only open M-F).

Nozzles vary by who sold or maintains the system. I've seen several different styles in California.

Most of the pumps I have visited have the old style nozzles. To me they seem a lot simpler to operate. I have noticed that sometimes the Diamond Bar pumps (new style) will not operate unless you turn the valve to fill after you put your card and pin code in. You can also drive thru Hemet and fill there on the way to Idylwild, it's a nice drive up the west side of the mountain.

I just don't like the quick connect not being integrated with the valve. It leads to a potentially dangerous situation where the quick-connect could not be seated all the way, and when you move the valve to fill, the pressure pops the nozzle off back at your hand. The newer style nozzles won't let this happen, as you won't get to the fill position if it isn't seated properly.

I believe the old (T-shaped with the 3-way valve) is the cheapest way to go. That is why you will see them out there and sometimes on new stations. The new style runs about $1800.00 and up.
