  • Rainbow CNG station in HB

Hey we just stopped at the new station located off warner on nichols. It was slated to open July 1st. Guess what. It doesn't work. There is a problem with the pumps. The manager said probably another two weeks before it will open.

Open to the public 6am to 10pm, and open 24/7 if you request a card to open the gate. That is what we were told.

I am not going to hold my breath on this one being open in two weeks though.

Drove by the other day, still closed.

Hopefully good news: there were no visible CE signs.

Re: Rainbow CNG station in HB

I had a talk with the people at Rainbow Disposal yesterday and got a look at their new station. (My office is blocks from them)
The new station is still being finished and they do not have a final date yet from the contractor. They are hoping it will be within a few weeks
It is going to be owned and operated by Rainbow Disposal...(Not CE)
They have 4 hoses, all 3600 PSI, with one central card reader, like an Arco, not a reader at each pump.
The fillers are not the type like at CE, Trillium, but the other style, more like a VRA. I attached a filler picture.

Rainbow will be letting me know when the station is about ready to go, and getting me the details (and application, if required) to post ASAP.

For those that do not know the area, The station is located at Rainbow Disposal, 17121 Nichols, Huntington Beach CA 92648. South of 405 on Beach Blvd about 1 mile, head West about 1/2 mile to Nichols, turn left on Nichols, about 1/2 block on right.

What is the price? I see Todd has not added it to cngprices yet. It looks like a convienient location for commuters on the 405.

Filled up today. Nice station with the uniquenesses mentioned in previous post. To get to the station, you have to drive down the notoriously congested Beach Blvd....so this is less convenient than the CE stations in Fountain Valley, Seal Beach, and Long Beach.

However, with school back in session, Fountain Valley is essentially a school bus depo in the mornings and afternoons so this may be a good alternative. I wish they would be more competetive with their pricing. Current price is $2.79 gge, same as CE.

I have been talking with them regularly. Rainbow told me that after they get their final contract signed with SoCal Gas, they would like to be lower than CE, but until their pricing is locked in, they would rather be open at the same as CE, than sitting around closed.

You can also get off 405 at Beach and go down Gothard to Warner which is the less crowded "locals" way.

Why is that station so expensive? My guess is: They use the fuel for their garbage trucks and expense the fuel at an exorbitant rate with the intention of lowering their tax basis. I doubt anybody would go there with the prices they continually have.

This is my new favorite station. I'm sorry I ever said anything bad about it. The best things about the station.

                        1. Digital pressure gauge. (I regular get 3585 psi). Totally cool.
                        2. Clean, and landscaped.
                        3. Four pumps (2 x 3600 + 2 x 3000)
                        4. Totally empty and never used. In the last six months, I have never seen another car fill up there.
                        5. Lots of bushes to take a leak in.
                        6. Always cheaper than CE.

                        See ya there!!

I never get more than 3050 psi on the 3600 psi pumps here. It sure is inexpensive though compared to the Clean Energy pump that I normally go to.
