  • Planned Public Station in Palo Alto

I went to fuel my car today at the Belmont PG and E and I ran into the head of the Palo Alto city fleet in his Civic GX. We were talking and he said that palo alto will be opening a public fueling site within the end of this year or within a year. I was too excited, finally somewhere to fill up between Belmont and Cupertino. It will probably be cheaper than PG and E because it will be used by the city fleet also. 2 bucks flat would be very nice!

    FYI,
    Anthony

Anyone heard anything new about this potential station or any other new refueling stations in the SF Bay Area?

      Johnny 99,
CNG Stations? You mean you folks in Gilroy haven't figured out how to run your cars on garlic yet?

Imagine the "aroma" if we could run our cars on garlic!

          Johnny 99,
That's easy to imagine, just drive thru a Little Italy or the North End of Boston at dinner time with the windows open. Mmmmmmm.

            Hi Johnny,
Didn't know you commute from Gilroy to Palo Alto. My commute is Gilroy to Mountain View. I heard that they are opening a PGE station off of 85 & Santa Theresa Q3 09.
I looked into Gilroy and Morgan Hill and there are no plans.. If they were to have CNG fueling stations it would most likely be the gas station on Chestnut where the new car dealers are.
Otherwise the other place would be the corp yard where South Valley disposal trucks are on 152 ( across from McCarthy Ranch). I believe they have a private pump there.

It would be wonderful to get a refueling station in south San Jose. I am getting my Phill installed tomorrow, so that should make my refilling life a little easier.

San Jose Unified School District, 24 hours, credit card, Hwy 87 & Curtner, is fairly "south"

Any news? This would be a welcome midpoint for my Alameda to Mountain View commute.

According to a sign posted on the gate to the north parking lot of the Palo Alto Municipal Service Center (3201 East Bayshore Rd), the "project completion date" is "March 2009."

Re: Planned Public Station in Palo Alto

I hope Palo Alto open te station to the general public, and also that they offer a 3600 PSI pump. I commute over a 100 miles a day, and my Phill doesn't quite refill the tank every night. I like to fill at a 3600 pump once a week, and I hate stopping at the SJ airport or the Pinnacle station in Santa Clara.

Re: Planned Public Station in Palo Alto

Does anyone know whom to contact at the City of Palo Alto about the new CNG pumps? I haven't been able to get any new information beyond the city council's approval of the bid for installation. I tried contacting the fleet manager at the facility, but he never answers his phone or returns my messages. Doesn't help to go to the maintenance center, either. There is no longer a guard, and again, nobody answers the phone.

I guess will have to wait until the end of March to see what's going on or not going on.

According to project manager Young Tran (650-329-2160), they are still "shooting for the end of March, but the first or second week of April is more likely." Mr. Tran was unsure whether there would be 3000 psi service, 3600 psi service, or both.

A special card from the City of Palo Alto will be required. Mr. Tran indicated there would be a public announcement with more details regarding how to obtain a card closer to the project completion date.
