Tulare is the best -- price, reliability and friendliness of the city employees who are often there during the week.

You probably don't need to top it off in Santa Clarita, but if you do need to fill before hitting the Grapevine, I would recommend San Fernando over Santa Clarita. The price is lower and I am in favor of supporting non-CE stations as much as possible with my purchases.

cngprices.com will print a list of stations with addresses, prices, and operational status for your route. But in my opinion you also need a GPS (my iPhone works pretty well) to easily find many of these stations. You'll need to break the route into two at Merced so you can see all of the stations along the 99.
