Called Bob Howard Honda in OKC today about GX inventory.....they sold all their GX's (35) to Chesapeake. So all the 2009's are sold, 2010's should be in later this year around November.

Update - Bob Howard Honda is doing a dealer-transfer on a GX from Houston. So whenever it arrives on the truck, we will be driving a NGV.

I have heard from a pretty reliable source that some of the On Que stations around OKC might be putting in CNG pumps at some of their stations. Also there is a new CNG station going in at 49th and western and should be done in the next 6 weeks hopefully.

Here in Oklahoma buying a cng vehicle is the smartest thing you could ever do. With all the ONG (Oklahoma Natural Gas) locations in state at $1.11/gge you'll never be able to beat the price, along with longevity of Honda Civic GX, in addition to fact that it is SULEV (super low emmission vehicle) - - - cleanest car ON THE PLANET for many years in a row!!

Regarding filling up with cng, it's much different than just pouring in liquid fuel as nature of compressed NG is that it heats up when being forced into small space of the fuel cylinder. Thus, it's common to get 85% to 90% full tank be considered an average fill. A decent fill might be 75% to 80% full. Excellent fills at 100% are rare here in OK. After some cool off time, additional cng can actually be added to the cng tank. Compressors in OK are older and generally are not kept at high pressures greater than 3,600 psi which would enable consistent excellent fills. Thus, you'll likely get a couple dashes less than full at ONG public cng pumps.

However, do the math and your Civic GX at even 35 mpg works out to only 3.2 cents per mile!! If you get 40 mpg it drops down to 2.8 cents per mile!! Compare to Toyota Prius on premium at $2.65/gal and 50 mpg which works out to 5.3 cents a mile - - - that's 65 PERCENT MORE than the modest Civic GX cost per mile with modest 35 mpg calculation!! Hand's down, the Civic is the ONLY way to travel commuter miles in Oklahoma!!

But where does the price per mile go to if you have to buy a home fueling device? I would not buy a dedicated NG vehicle without one of these devices at this time. The sad fact is,you just can not depend on the fueling sites we have in the OKC area. Plus,some of us have to drive a long way to get to one. The OP would have to drive to Guthrie or 50th & Santa Fe to get gas and better hope that they are working. The size of OKC Metro needs at least 20 dependable stations IMO. We are talking about a very large area. This is really the main downside to owning a NG vehicle in this area.

Just be aware that the ONG sites are not the most reliable. This past winter was pretty bad as I found most of the sites not working at one time or another. Lucky for me that I drive a bi-fuel so I wasn't dependent on NG because I would have been stuck many times. Also,I have to wonder why ONG doesn't have a pump in NW OKC as it is the most populated area of the city.

Maybe in 5-10 years the OKC area will have enough stations to support a reasonable amount of CNG vehicles but at this time I would say that your best solution would be to get a home fueling station. Never depend on the ONG stations as your only option because if you do,you will most likely be calling AAA for a tow.

Filling with CNG varies on the station, but most of us will agree it is faster than filling with gasoliline. My local station takes less than 2 minutes to fill about 4-5 GGE.

I'm thinking about buying a Honda GX. How long does it take to fill-up at a commercial CNG station like CE or ONG, assuming you need 6-7 GGE?

I frequent this public cng site so I understand why there is confusion.

Based on phone call I just made to ONG Dispatch and further clarified with Kyle (ONG Manager), there is ONLY ONE public cng pump in north OKC which is the Red Rock at 7 NE 50th. It is actually an ONG cng pump that is leased to Red Rock. Thus, the address in cngprices.com is wrong as it has 4901 N Sante Fe which is actually the nearby ONG facility. ONG does have their own cng pump/dispenser within their site at 4901 N Sante Fe, but those are private.

Thus, just need to change address in CNGPrices to 7 NE 50th, which is Red Rock which also has petrol pumps on the corner.

I've added comment at cngprices.com to clarify.

So I am on cngprices.com and some goofball posted that the 4901 station has public access and is operational. The exact wording is:

2009-05-21 Remove comment about no public acess as this site IS OPEN and accessible 24/7 right on corner. Sometimes not operational when card reader & dispenser don't sync together. See cngchat.com for updates on when not working.

Whoever this person is, is not only directionally challenged, but clearly cannot even use the street view in Google Maps to see that there is no public access to this station.

Additionally, as I pointed out in my second post, if you toggle between public and private on the energy.gov website you will see NE 50th is public and 4901 is private.

I like for stuff to be up-to-date just as much as the next person, so what is so hard about this? Just delete the 4901 station from cngprices.com and the problem is solved.

I tried the Pauls Valley station about two weeks ago and the quick connect blew off the fitting on the GX when I would turn the pump on. I finally gave up after two attempts. That was dangerous. I called ONG and complained. I don't know if they fixed it or not.

I have looked for the pump on several occasions, but never found it. I have had terrible luck the last 3 or 4 times I have used the Red Rock station and have went to the mustang location several times (because the SE 59th location hasnt worked for me either). The trip to Mustang is a 50 mile round trip from my house. I think the CE station at the airport is supposed to open soon and I will be using that station from now on, until I get my HRA this year. ONG stations are becoming very unreliable. I know they are getting way more use than they were orignally intended for.

The pumps at Red Rock have an out of service sign on them so I tried to go to the ONG station at 4901, but I could not find a public entrance. Next, I called the 888-609-2410 number and that person told me that NE 50th is the ONG public access site.

*sigh*

So does anyone know if there is public access to the 4901 address and if not, why is it listed in cngprices.com?
