I originally thought that to receive the $2500 tax credit in Utah for a cng converted vehicle, the conversion had to be certified by the EPA. However, this is NOT the case.
A co-worker of mine bought a 2000 Silverado conversion. This conversion is not listed by the EPA as a certified conversion, so he called the DEQ to see what documentation he needed to provide. The DEQ told him that he needs an ASE certified mechanic to verify that the vehicle runs on CNG. He specifically asked him about the EPA certification, and the DEQ said that that was not required.

This is no longer the case. For nearly a year now DEQ has been rejecting tax credit applications for conversions which do not include a copy of the EPA Certificate of Conformity. Details:
