            Scott,

Do you have details? I heard the LA City Council was considering revoking the free parking privileges for vehicles with HOV stickers, but I hadn't heard an outcome.

Re: What's the score on free parking???

Sorry BiggJohn, the City Council (as I understand it) voted an extension for the alternate fueled vehicles to have free parking, but subsequently reversed their decision when DOT said they did not think the meter maids were capable of destinguishing the white from the yellow stickers on the vehicles. I sent two emails to Bernard Parks staff, but they did not have the courtesy to respond. I have continued to park at the LA city meters with a note on my dash about the vote and still have not gotten a ticket. The note has the LA City logo at the top, so maybe they think it is an official vehicle. Anybody gotten a parking ticket in Los Angeles in a cng car in the past 4 months? A few weeks ago I noticed that one of my tires had a time notation chaulked on it. This was a first for me and it happened in Santa Monica. You have obey the time allowed for by the meter, as if you were using coins in it.

Yes, I've gotten a parking ticket in a CNG car in LA in the last couple of months. Sent a copy of the city council letter that's been posted elsewhere, explaining that parking for free was still allowed for alternative fuelled vehicles but not for hybrids, talked yellow vs white hov stickers, highlighted relevant parts of the attached LA city council letter. No dice. I will try the administrative review, especially because the letter sent back was mixing up alternative fuelled vehicles with hybrids. I just need one reviewer to have just a little bit of doubt and cut me some slack! I'd not heard of the change in the law until I got the ticket, so it especially hurts.

Next step will be to call my councilwoman.

Sorry about the ticket. If you are sending specific information to a councilperson , pm me a copy and I'll send it along to Councilman Parks. I am a Santa Monica resident, but I have a business in LA.

Councilman Bill Rosendahl (aka, "Ruinitall") was the one who spearheaded the cancellation of the free parking at meters as seen in this attached article...
Los Angeles Times blogs that were published between 2006 and 2013.

He was quoted as calling it, "gold in the gutter". He has also been involved in Santa Monica politics as recently as our last election on proposition "T". So watch out Santa Monica, he may try to influence Santa Monica's decision on this, too!

The Los Angeles City Council is considering a new motion (attached) to allow free parking for BEV's and PHEV's and other electric vehicles. Please write the council persons requesting that CNG vehicles be given he same privilege. As we all know, when the gasoline engine picks up the load for the depleted batteries, the real emissions start. Their email addresses can be found at the link below.

RE: Free meter parking in Los Angeles

I received a favorable response from Councilmember Jan Perry, presenter of the free meter parking motion (see prior post for wording of motion). Please read it prior to emailing. I think if we could just get one or two more emails to her it would help. Especially, that the white decals provided by the state are already identifying the automobiles that are truly alternative fueled. GX, Rav 4 electrics, and the various hydrogen cars out there. Maybe add domestically produced etc.

Link with http://lacity.org/lacity/YourGovernm...ncil/index.htm and select Jan Perry.

                            Thanks in advance.
