Conversion Kits Qualify for CA HOV Stickers?

In reading the CA senate proposals, the bill regarding the extension of the 2011 HOV access to 2017 has been revised deleting Hybrids, but extending all others. It looks like this will pass. Since I am now a current Prius owner, I am ready to jump into CNG. Does anyone know if I purchase a used 2008 Crown Victoria which has been legally converted to CNG, do I qualify for a white HOV sticker? It does not mention anything on the ARB site about converted vehicles, and only lists authorized factory vehicles are eligable. I'm looking for more mileage distance than a new Civic GX can give me. Thanks!

It's not clear whether the DMV actually does any cross-checking against a list of approved conversions or whether they just look at the fuel source of the vehicle.

Based on the number of complaints from people that have had their GX improperly classified when titled, the DMV is probably not coordinating with CARB and only looking at the fuel type.

All of those BAF converted Crow Victoria taxis pulling up to the airports in Southern California have white HOV stickers.

I think the other question is, are the conversions CARB Approved?? I would hate to see someone have a conversion done and not pass Calif SMOG and not get the license renewed.

Technically, I believe all CARB certified conversions (That meet SULEV requirements) are eligible for the white stickers. The 'official' list is HERE at CARB's website, though it doesn't appear to be THAT updated. Probably would be a good idea to enquire with CARB prior to buying the car.

I've seen some of those taxis with photocopied white stickers. Since they're white, they're easy to photocopy. I don't care. It's obvioius they are CNG cuz they're filling right up next to me in Anaheim and GG.

Go to CARB's site they have all the vehicles that qualify, The key is if it has the correct EFN listed on the CARB site. If the EFN doesn't match up converted or not no sticker.
