  • Yellow HOV sticker on CNG vehicle

I filled up at Hayward PG&E station and met a Crown Victoria owner. I found out the HOV sticker on its bumper is yellow not silver/white. He said DMV mess up and he got the yellow sticker instead white/silver. It looks special when yellow sticker on CNG.

If you see this fellow again , please advise him to get the dmv to send the correct stickers. Sooner or later, he will have a hassle with the CHP.

I've had issues with the CHP with my properly affixed white stickers, so I wouldn't necessarily put any blame on the color of the sticker here... This cop was sooo excited that he 'caught' me driving by myself in the carpool lane with my 'fake' stickers on a car that was obviously NOT a hybrid. Any idea how much of a PITA it is getting pulled over from the carpool lane in rush hour traffic? Idiot...

The farthest I've gotten with CHP, is them following me out of the carpool lane, then seeing the sticker and passing me with a wave as they go for the solo driver in front of me.

I wish they would come out with a carpool cam like the red light cameras, balance the state budget on the HOV lane violators.

The only difference between yellow and white is that yellow have to have a special Fastrak transponder for the Bay Bridges so they pay a toll in the carpool lane.

I have no idea if the CHP enforces the requirement, it does not appear to me that the CHP HOV lane enforcement people are located in a place where they can see whether or not yellow stickered cars are in fact paying the toll.

With respect to the GG Bridge, you have to point out the sticker to the toll taker (there are no dedicated HOV lanes), so the person with the improper yellow sticker would have to pay a toll there during commute hours that would not have to be paid with a white stikcer.

I think if you check again you'll find that the same rules apply to either sticker.

Yeah, as far as i know, the only difference between the white and yellow in practical use is the tentative expiration date of the yellow ones.

Re: Yellow HOV sticker on CNG vehicle

I have been pulled over twice by the CHP for driving CNG pickups in the carpool lane. I don't think they can imagine my F250 or Dodge Ram 1500 actually being eligible for the privilege. Both times the CHP took a long time to verify that the registration paperwork was correct. The second time was actually something out of a comedy skit. The officer raced up behid me, pulled me over and quickly exited his vehicle with his hand hovering over his sidearm. As he walked up to the vehicle, I could see him noticing the stickers. He still asked me in the most feminine German man voice ever (think Bruno) "I pulled you over because you are solo in the carpool lane?" As I pointed to the rear quadrant of the car from inside my cab, he angrily said "then why were you trying to get away from me?" I said "I live off this freeway exit." I ended up being so nervous that I forgot where I put my wallet and he cited me for not having my license in possession, although I gave him all the license info from memory. Because I forgot about the court date, I ended up paying $150 for that ticket! I have to remember to ask for the officer's name and badge number right off the bat next time...

He's f---ed if the new law passes allowing us with white stickers to remain in the HOV lane. LOL.
