This came across on our tax service this morning.
Effective January 1, 2009, purchasers of new high gas mileage hybrid vehicles or new vehicles that use clean alternative fuels will receive an exemption from Washington sales and use tax. The exemption also applies to the motor vehicle sales/use tax. Qualifying vehicles include passenger cars, light duty trucks, and medium duty passenger vehicles that are "new motor vehicles" and either (1) are powered solely by clean alternative fuels or (2) use hybrid technology and have an EPA rating of at least 40 miles per gallon. The exemption remains in effect through December 31, 2010. The vehicle must be delivered on or after January 1, 2009, and before January 1, 2011.
Unfortunately, my email is messing up...the link to the entire story is currently inoperative. If anyone needs additional information, shoot me a line and I'll get it for you.
