  • Question about Incentives

Guys, I'm new here and I have a few questions. And yes, I made my name wrong, LOL. For some reason I keep getting the C and the G mixed up, maybe because they look similar?

About the federal and state incentives: Is it guaranteed that if we buy the car, we are automatically qualified for the ~$3000 state and ~$4000 federal credit? Or is it kind of like a lottery where only a % of the people that has the car get it?

On the HOV stickers: I was asking my friend and he said the state of CA is no longer giving the stickers away and others are saying that it's kind of like a lottery system where some % of the people get the stickers.

I plan on buying this car soon, maybe before the summer gets here and I'm just making sure.

    Re: Question about Incentives

Welcome to CNGchat, futurecx (now futuregx)
    Got your screen name fixed

The Federal incentive on a 3/4 ton or lighter vehicle (such as the Civic GX) is $4,000 and can be taken only in the year the new vehicle was put into service (heavier vehicles are $8,000 for 3/4 ton and then stair-step on up to $32,000 for big trash haulers, etc.). The only "gotcha" is if you are subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax then this credit is zero. Refer to IRS Form 8910 as well as Curt's post here:

The State incentives vary from state-to-state. Here is a good resource:

It was the hybrid stickers (Prius, Civic hybrid, Insight) that were allocated only a set number, which quickly got used up. There is no lottery system as far as I know for the California HOV stickers. All dedicated natural gas vehicles can obtain them, although it can be a pain to get them. Here are some good threads for you to review:

      Re: Question about Incentives

GXs are entitled to HOV stickers in California. The problem is that a lot of DMV employees are confused about the program and tell you they aren't available. Another problem is that special HOV access is set to expire next year, although I expect that it will be extended (thank you, Prius owners!).

LOL. Thanks Prius owners. They'll be saying "NO" soon enough. LOL.

It expires in 2011 not 2009.
