  • Fuelmaker FM-3?

We were just contacted by an individual selling a Fuelmaker FM3. I've never heard of this model, just the FM-2 and FM-4. Has anyone had any experience with the FM3?

    Thanks,

Probably a C-3, obsolete, very few parts available.
Possible explosion hazard if it did not get a factory upgrade.
    Illegal in California. Very old.

Thanks Dave, That would explain why my searches for FM-3 were turning up negative. I'll see if he can give me the exact model number or pictures.

Why would it be 'illegal' in CA but not other states?

According to the Fuelmaker recall notice for the C3 compressors, there were approx 20 units out of 1950 units that may have been affected by a manufacturing/assembly error. Check out www.littlemetalshop.com This site contains the recall letter from Fuelmaker and other C3 info. I would be interested in the reasons why these units are illegal in California.

          Thanks

I would like to know where you obtained your information on the C3.
We have an inventory of roughly 90-100 C3's. We also have spare parts for the C3. We have hundreds of hoses for C3's. We have lots of parts available.

You talked about a possible explosion hazard. Yes, in Montreal the plate between the control module and the manifold was defective. Fuelmaker identified that this was problem in 20-30 units. They did not research where these units were so they paid to replace the plate in all rental units and units that were in inventory.
FYI Fuelmaker designed and made the C1 as a prototype ( we have one of these). The next version was the C2 then the C3 in the 80's (not very old).
The C3 was too expensive for the average user, so their board of directors approached their engineers asking them to design an appliance with the same output, safety, diagnostics as the C3, but with a lower price. The engineers came up with the FM4 (Fuelmaker 4) which Fuelmaker started selling at a much lower price. The FM4 evolved to the FMQ etc etc.

I don't believe the C3 is illegal in California. (Maybe just a rumour)
