  • Bi-Fuel Conversions

I know that you don't get the federal tax incentive for getting a bi-fuel conversion, but does anyone know if the savings from going bi-fuel offsets the cost of going dedicated+the tax credit? If I wasn't clear there I am curious generally how much more going dedicated normally costs upfront verses going bi-fuel (lets say BAF/Fueltech) on average.

    Re: Bi-Fuel Conversions

I'm not totally sure whaqt you are asking, but I don't think you would save ANY money going bi-fuel over dedicated, so i don't see how the savings would add up to anything, let alone offsetting the tax credit.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only real advantage to bi-fuel is being able to still drive whereever you want, and not getting stranded somewhere. I doubt the conversion would be any cheaper.

      Re: Bi-Fuel Conversions

Sorry didn't have the time to break it down to much yesterday. I am going to buy a newer truck and convert it, if I am going dedicated I will probably get a 24-30 gge tank setup so upwards of 16K-17K. If I go bi-fuel I would only need a 12-16 gge setup plus I didn't know if an IMPCO or Fueltech system charged less for there conversions than Baytech or BAF. That is where my problem is, I know that I would pay a lot more for the large 30 gge tank but I would also get a fed tax credit (if amt didn't take it out), but I have no idea what the smaller tank certified bi-fuel system goes for.

I've not seen the configuration for dedicated CNGs with 30 GGE, but it seems like it wouldn't leave much of a truck bed... I expect the incremental cost from a typical 12 GGE you'd find in Bi fuel to the multiple tank setup for dedicated wouldn't totally pay for itself just from the fed tax credit, but going dedicated does buy other advantages (like solo in the car pool lane).
