  • The Million Dollar Question -Anybody successful in CA with conversion???

    Hi there!

I've been reading these forums and am in the market for a new car. I would love a used Lexus or Honda Accord and convert themto CNG. Is there anybody out there at all who has done this and if so where did you go?

My other question is - I live in Livermore and we have no CNG retail gas so I can either install a Phill station at my house or I thought about installing a second CNG tank and then I could fill up both in San Ramon which is about 20 miles away....

Also - I was wondering if you get a Phill station at home is your home price lower than it would be at a CNG station?

I'm new to all this but would love some help on these questions!

    Thanks in advance -

Just a mom trying to save money!:

Over the long term, I've found the home refueling (FM2, NOT a Phill) to be less expensive than CNG stations. The "recurring cost" for me in Mesa, AZ is less than $1.50 per equivalent gas gallon. In the long term the FM2 is less expensive than Phill (rebuilding cost every 4000 hours of operation or about 3600 EGG is about $1000, then add the cost of electricity to compress, and the actual fuel cost) This doesn't take into account the cost of the unit itself... how long do you expect to have the compressor for the next 5 years, or 10 years, or ? I've been running a home compressor for over 7 years, and don't know why I wouldn't continue for at least the next 10 or more.

I think your bigger issue will be finding a vehicle. Best of luck in your search!
