    Re: What Cylinder size?

I cannot tell you the dimensions, but I would be interested in a smaller one, which would fit into the unused space where the regular tank would be on the civic.
When I installed the hitch I saw this space, but then I did not think of the tank and did not take any measurements. Maybe two tanks would fit side-by-side.
Anyone knows the dimensions and how it relates to the tank size (required clearances etc.)?

      Uraijit,
Wow, one day your looking for used tanks, and the next you've got the cash for a container load of new cylinders. Hope these "foreign" tanks are certified ANSI/CSA NGV2 & US DOT FMVSS 304 or you may not be able to import or use them in the US. Good luck with finding "common sizes" enough to put together and order. After figuring the same thing for the past few years I've come to the conclusion that 30-80 vehicles (3-4 tanks per) worth of tanks is an affordable order from overseas. If your serious keep us posted.
BTW, I am almost done with my used tank inventory and will send you the list if your still interested in tanks for your boat.

I've been finding that same lack of tanks too, and noticed all the ad's for foreign makers. We should maybe set up a forum group buy if all looks good and we actually find some good tanks. I can't find much of anything new at all except buying 200+ minimum order. There seems to be quite a demand and I may look into importing some as well if no one else does. Formerly owned a engine importing business for 6 years and I am well versed in dealing with customs, DOT, and FMVSS regs.....

I'm also interested in CNG cylinders. Would be great to know where to get some non-expired or new tanks!

            Re: What Cylinder size?

We're going to be looking at around a $50,000 order I'd guess, which I don't have cash for either after just getting into a house. At this point my biggest concern and next step would be finding a honest company to deal with in being assured that the tanks are legit, tested, and approved for import into the US. It could even require a trip to the country of origin. I'm definately interested, and basically there are a few ways to do this. We can do a forum group buy on a pre-paid basis(will offer the lowest price), or come up with funds on our own and retail them for what we see fit. We'd need to set up some kind of contract or trust to assure the forum members they are getting what they paid for. Lets look into who and where the tanks will come from and go from there at this point.

If your going to import tanks and go through the hassle of getting them approved in the USA you might as well look at finding some ANG tanks....

                Re: What Cylinder size?

Several of the foreign companies offering tanks claim they are already tested and certified. I wouldn't be against purchasing USA made tanks however, the escalated shipping costs may make them competitive against the imported tanks......
I think a tank size that would fit lengthwise between the rear wheel wells of a Civic would be a good size. I think I was looking at a 16" dia x 34" long, with a 6.8-8 GGE capacity. I'll measure my trunk today.
This size would fit the Civic as well as 2 of them could be used in other vehicles like pickups and SUV's. We could also price smaller tanks(~2GGE) and use more of them instead, it will mean more connections and increase the possibility of leaks, but also would be easier to fit them in alot fo different vehicles.

                    Guys,
I heard that Pressed Steel will be getting back into the market. They sold thier manufacturing equipment to a company in South Korea and are going to have them do the manufacturing and PST will do the certification and marketing. As for sizes, I was using Ford, Chevy, Dodge factory type 1 and 2 sizes and the Lincoln Composites size chart available on thier website.
Also Faber in Italy was doing certified type 1s and will sell container loads but good luck contacting them.

                      Re: What Cylinder size?

I got a reply back from 2 of the companies, 1 will do 10 tank minimum order, the other 100 or more. I've got to take some measurements and see what a good size will be.
The qty 10 minimum order looks promising, now if the price is do-able......

                        Re: What Cylinder size?

I'm interested in a tank for an '08 Civic GX if the price ends up being reasonable. I hope you guys mention the manual shut off valves and mounting brackets in setting up your deal. Having to buy those separately at US prices could make the total price too high. Bought as a package from the tank manufacturer the total cost should be reasonable.

Yes, I have asked them to include pricing for valves, belly mount brackets, and PRD's along with the tanks. I am assuming they would be able to offer a much better deal as well then buying them separately. This is the company that will offer qty 10 on up. They are talking august delivery right now though. How much of a hurry is everyone in?

Great! I'm in absolutely no hurry, price is more important.

I hope they will come thru with a decent price, we'll have to wait and see how they reply. It seems to me that there isn't much out there period and that if I can establish a steady source at a fair price this can happen....
