  • New POI for CNG stations, need your GPS data!

After using the POI found on this forum I quickly figured out that it had a lot of location errors. It gets you close but many times it's not close enough.

I'm starting with the POI located on this forum and will be updating it with better coordinates and other information for the stations. I've already started with the stations in Southern California along the 405 between Irvine and Culver City but I can only do so much so I need your help.

I'd like everyone with a GPS to get the coordinates for the stations they visit. I'd like this not only for California but every where else in the country. In addition I'd like as much information as you can get about the stations.

    What I need is:
    • Latitude and Longitude in decimal format with as many digits of accuracy that you can get. Try to get the Latitude and Longitude right at the station pumps. I'll check them on Google Earth and adjust as needed.
    • Station name, i.e., SoCal Gas Base, Garden Grove. Unlike the pocked guide I'll list the company first then the location.
    • Station address: The real address of the station which may not be the same as listed in the guides or the company sites. An example of this is the SoCal Gas, Garden Grove Base where the address listed is the the entrance to the Base and the station is on a different street on the other side of the yard.
    • Phone Number.
    • Operating Hours, if other than 24hrs a day, and any other access information.
    • Station pressure.
    • Payment method.

I'll put this together and publish it in Excel, CSV, TomTom OV2 and Garmin file formats. I'll also post it on the several of the main POI sites as I can but the master copy will be kept here.

Let's all pull together and make the best CNG POI around. We can do this but it will take all of us to pull it off.

TomTom owners, which includes myself: I'm trying to get TomTom's new format that allow posting details. The initial release won't have that information but as soon as I can find out how TT does it I'll add the additional information to the ov2 files.

    John, that sounds great!
I will be heading down to Vegas next weekend with my new Garmin, so will try to get Fillmore, Cedar City, St. George, and all of the Vegas pumps pinpointed for us (note the airport station closed, see CNGPrices.com)

Highmarker, you want to take on N. Wasatch Front?

One of the great things that I would like to see is a list of ACTIVE stations. I pulled into Glendale, CA station off of the 134 & I-5 and it was fenced off and closed! Luckily Burbank is near by.

Your prayers have been answered. Look in the left sidebar, near the top, under "Helpful Links". Click on "CNG Prices", it's the only interactive fueling station locator on the internet. Price wrong? Change it. Great fill? Add a note, crappy fill? Add a note! Kinda like you died and went to heaven...
Everyone wanted the same thing, so your wish was granted.

                Hemet GPS data

                Hemet, CA
                33.736004 N
                117.010300 W
All the other data in the guide is accurate, I have called the PH# many times, usually because the printer needs paper.
This is my primary resource for fuel, it has been a very reliable source with good pressure (3,500-4,000psi) even after multiple buses fueling.

Here is a csv file and a gpx (GPS Exchange Format) file. The Sample.gpx file may show you how to shoe extra waypoint information.

Card reader at end of island asks for vehicle ID. You don't need one. Just swipe your credit card (I use Mastercard, I think it takes Visa as well), select the pump# (1 or 2) and press enter. When the card is authorized the display will tell you something like #1 authorized (I don't actually read it anymore, it can be hard to see in the sunlight). There is no video to watch and no PIN required.
