I need to have my 2000 CNG Camry painted. What instructions do I need to give the body shop? What temperature triggers the relief valve on the Camry?

Just avoid baking the paint after it's painted. Some shops do this to speed drying times. One of the guys can check me on this, but I think the PRD may open at around 400 degrees. I'm not 100% on that though.

Shouldn't it be based on pressure?

Much of the plastic on the car will be melted before 400 degrees. ABS melts at 221F. The can of Fix-A-Flat in your trunk probably explodes. Don't get me started about the crayons your kid left in the armrest...
Don't know what the heat lamps do to the body temp, but it can't be that high.

The PRD's I've worked with will go off somewhere between 217 and 235 deg F.
It should be printed on the PRD valve.

I would not bake a cng vehicle with cylinder in the vehicle, full or empty. Most cylinders have a 180 deg F working temperature (check the label).

Yes, I don't know the temperature in the bake ovens used in the automotive paint and body work. Unless the vehicle and CNG component manufacturers what to give you the OK in writing as to temperature limits and specifically say it OK to put the CNG vehicle in a bake oven ----- DON'T.

Yes, I am a little over cautious

Been there done that. Have them paint your car last.. at the end of the day. They can put it in the spray booth and leave it in there overnight. It will be dry in the am. They will still run the exhaust fan but MAKE SURE they don't turn on the oven ) I have put that in writting on the receipt and made them sign right next to that statement.

            Re: Painting CNG Camry

I agree with CNGCARS. I had a Cavalier painted, no problem with getting it done last in the day and sitting in the booth overnight. Even though I don't think the interior of the car (in the tank area) would get up to a temperture to open the PRD in a paint oven, it's not worth the risk.

Any thoughts about possibly applying the HOV stickers directly to the paint and then applying 2 or three layers of clear coat? I'm hoping to prevent pilferage.
