  • Where can I view a complete list of ALL EPA cert CNG vehicles in time?

When I go to the normal .pdf file that has been posted here and other places, they only show a current listing of the EPA certified vehicles that are available to be certified today. I would like to see a complete list since the beginning of time, so when I am searching for potential used cars to buy, I can have some indicator of whether the car I am searching for may possibly be an authentic EPA certified vehicle before I pursue after it.

Does anybody know where I could find such a list?

    Here is the site:

Pull down "Certificates of Conformity" then select the manufacturer and model year (goes back to 2003). All of the alt fuel converters are there, including the QVM's automakers used for factory-upfits back when they were making the CNG vehicles (GFI comes to mind).

The certs specify fuel type so you may need to wade thru a bit to find the appropriate one for your CNG vehicle. If the used car owner can look under the hood for the Vehicle Emissions Control Label you can search even faster by having the "Engine Family" or "Test Group" from the label.

Note that new certifications such as my NaturalDrive Impala are not on there; it seems EPA takes up to 4 or 5 months to get them posted.

The weblink that John posted is, I believe, the only listing of EPA certified engine packages throughout time. One thing I always do, when I am searching for a "legal" conversion is just ask the owner for the EPA certification. If he shows it to you, then you know that the vehicle is legit, if he hims and hods around and tries to give you some lame excuse as to why he can't show it to you, then you are probably good to guess that it is not EPA certified. The fall back that I use as to the reason for asking for an EPA certificate, is that I live in a county (Weber) that now checks for EPA certification during the emissions test, and I need it to prove that the vehicle is legal.

Thank you very much for that info!

So there is no way to look up anything that is prior to 2003?

        And one other question...

Can you tell by looking at anything on the vehicle itself, whether the car has the cert? Like, isn't there a sticker under the hood that identifies EPA cert, and what does it look like? Does anybody have a picture of one so I can tell what to look for? Is there something in the VIN number that can help track as to whether it is EPA certified (possibly through carfax or something)?

Well, I checked that site, and for the most part, it is incomplete and is missing many of the vehicles of prior years. For example, using this pdf as a reference: http://www.illinoisgreenfleets.org/f.../ngv-guide.pdf which is an old listing of supposed EPA cert vehicles from 6-13-2008, I tried to cross reference them on the EPA search engine John gave me, but many of the certs I try to look up which the pdf show valid, just come back from the EPA website as, "sorry cannot find any pertaining docs" type of thing. So are there any other sources to find these certs of conf, because the Gov has let me down? They need to hire a new webmaster. Their site is broken.

Yeah, even if you search under "All" manufacturers, and "All" model years, you only get 2 pages of certs that only cover 2008-2009

Lame website. There's got to be another source somewhere?

All vehicles have the Vehicle Emissions Control Label under the hood. In the case of an alt fuel conversion it will either have two labels (the original one plus the converter's) or one (the converter places his VECL over the OEM's label -- Baytech is famous for this). In any event there will be an "Engine Family" or "Test Group" number on these labels.

I just searched ALL everything and got 7168 item(s) returned. 20 result(s) displayed (1-20). You might want to verify your input parameters.

                Josch,

                Here's the NGVA link: http://www.ngvc.org/pdfs/marketplace...ses.NGVs-a.pdf

but...it's not up to date either. NaturalDrive And Transeco Energy have both recently obtained certifications.

The NGVA list will be updated soon.

                Best regards,
