  • slight collision

    Hey gang,

So a parked car rolled into my GX from the rear, pushed it about 3ft and hit the car in front. Only scuffs on the bumpers and hard to determine the speed of impact but should I be concerned about the tank? I read about that tragic incident with the shuttle bus tank explosion during refill after a rear end accident.

    thoughts?

While it's unlikely that it caused any damage to the tank, I would have them do an inspection as part of the repair.

      Re: slight collision

The shuttle bus accident tank damage was caused by battery acid splashed on to the tank from the car's front end. The acid destroyed the integrity of the carbon wrap on the tank causing the weakness and resulting explosion.

Checking the GX for movement or crushing at the mount strap locations is a good idea.

        Re: slight collision

Honda has put white "witness marks" on the tank and tank brackets (at least they did in '98). Pull the shield in the trunk of your GX and check the marks. Should take you 10 to 15 minutes and then you would know
