  • I got the lo-jack installed on my 09 GX

I am new to the forum, and actually picking up my black Honda Civic GX 2009 this afternoon. I was curious if anyone has ever had their GX stolen? We ended up paying to have the lo-jack alarm system installed, as well as the Honda alarm because I was so nervous about the Civic being a more desirable car for thieves. It is kind of a silly question, but we are not used to having a cool car, so I am a little concerned. I look forward to reading all your useful advice on this site! Thank you, Krista

Stop worrying so much about your car being stolen. That stuff about the Civic being one of the 'Top 10 Most Stolen Cars' is a bogus -- statistics from the 90s before ignition keys had 'chips.'

I am sorry to say that lo jack really sucks. 1st you cannot even have it activated until you first file a police report. By then your car could already be in a metal container and no signal will get out. When I worked for LAPD back in 1992 I remember not being able to respond to lo jack signals because we were busy with priority calls. Police and lo jack reps are the only ones that can respond to the signal or have access to track the units. Once we were no longer busy if the signal was still around we would try to locate and track it. Most times the signal was already gone. Unit most likely just drove through our division. So if the unit goes to the next city, that police department will get the signal. Lets hope they are not busy.

I would recommend tele-track. I had it on my car and my repo trucks when I owned my own repo business. Its always activated and you can call when ever you want to test or locate the unit. I know when my kids start driving I will pay to put it on their cars so I can have some piece of mind.

        Just my two cents..

Wow! You guys are awesome at quick responses! Thank you for the input. I drive a 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan as my primary car, but now I am driving my new Civic GX! We had been waiting since Spring 2008 when Mel Rapton here in Sacramento ordered a GX for us. But in July, we found out Honda didn't want to make one black one and shut down the line for that color or something like that, so we ended up waiting for the 2009 GX to get the black we wanted. And Mel Rapton sold it to us for the 08 price. So it was the $24,500 price. But of course we added stuff! And we have had the Phill Fuelmaker in our garage for about 6 months, waiting for the car! I feel we were more taken on the price of Phil and installation because of the one installer in Northern California. So I feel for the car we got a good price, but not so great on Phill and installation. Although at this point we are just happy to get the car and now be able to refuel at home! Thank you for easing my mind about the car not getting stolen. I guess I never had the feeling that anyone would steal my minivan. But this new GX is HOT! And I guess they can't get very far cause they probably wouldn't have a PG&E refueling card!

How much did it run you? (A smart thief might have the card.)
