  • Bigger Tanks!!

I have been looking at CNV conversion and the one thing I noticed is that the tanks are not very big. They only have 100-150 mile range.

I want a BIG tank, not 7 gallons but 20-30 gallons so I do not have to fill up every 100 or so miles.

Anywhere I can get tanks on the cheap?
    I know a 7 gallon tanks costs $1200

    Thanks

I don't know what you're refitting, but don't forget to factor in the weight of those extra tanks, both on your suspension and on your power to weight ratio.

Does anyone know the specs on the Honda tanks? I was looking at tanks, thinking maybe replacing the stock tank with a larger one instead of adding an extra. SCI has a tank that is 11.4 gge, 20.5" dia X 37.5 long, 139 lbs.

I was eventually looking at this also. I wonder how much of a bigger tank you could fit into the stock area?

Yes, what kind of car/truck is it you want to convert? My neighbor has the Civic CNG and he says he gets around 200 per tank, and the CNG vans we drive at work get the same. I guess that's still less than what you're looking for, but if you keep it at 65mph or less, and don't have a HUGE weight load, 200 seems the norm.

I have a 21 gallon tank at 3600 psi, and usually get about 10 gallons when i fill up (to about 2900 psi typical, so maybe 2400 after it cools down), 150 mile range in my 4x4 truck. Hope you have better dispensers than I do.

For a truck, you can usually find used bus tanks for sale, many here on cng chat. Cheap is relative.

To Tailchaser in OK it sounds like you're getting poor fills if you're nearly empty with 21 gge tank and only getting 10 gge when you fill up. What is best pressure pump you've used?? With new compressors in Tulsa you should be able to get 85% to 90% full when getting true 3,600 psi fill (thus if you're empty, you should be getting say 15 to 17 gge with a good 3,600 psi fastfill - - an excellent fastfill might get you 19 gge). Have you tried the "topoff" method of adding more after it cools a bit? Have you used the TGT pump in Tulsa or new pumps at OnCueExpress like in Edmond, OK or other new locations?

Saw a guys truck at an auction last week and he had 6 tanks in the back and was pulling a 16 foot trailer. He told me he had a 685 mile range and was going to keep adding tanks till he got over 1000.
