  • CNG cylinder threads?

Does anyone know the standard thread used on 3600 psi CNG cylinders in North America?

    CanAm,

    They vary between the following:

    1 1/16 - 12 UNF
    1 1/8 - 12 UNF
    2 - 12 UNF
    3/4" NPT

Most are the 1 1/8 - 12 UNF, if it has a solenoid valve, then it is probably the 2 - 12 UNF.

So some type of washer is used to seal with the straight threads?

Also, do you know who are the main manufacturers of valves? I have found several in Italy, but very few in the US.

Looks like the 1 1/8 - 12 UNF is the most common and is used by overseas manufacturers. I would like to settle on one for the tanks we will soon be importing. I have spent the last few days on the phone with DOT and TC getting the scoop on tank imports. Luckily it is much easier than many think due to the fact NGV vehilce tanks are not used for commercial transport of gas, but installed for direct fueling.
