  • Whats the big deal with compuvalve?

I just bought a 2000 contour cng with 112k miles and the fuel selector switch is flashing in a series of 2 short and one long over and over again. This sounds like a compuvalve problem (i learned here). So whats the big deal? it is just electronic components which can all be troublshooted. I just need a diagram of the unit and the test procedures. This cant be that hard. If someone has the diagram and procedures I will be happy to see if I can troubleshoot it and if I can I will gladly troubleshoot others as well at no cost.

This seems to be the weak link so why hasn't anyone come up with an alternative? Lets do it together and then tell ford to go hump themselves.

I have been bitten by the compuvalve bug. The location of the valve in the contours makes it suseptible for corrosive forces and just plain getting dirty and buggered up. I think many are salvagable, the risk makes it a spendy proposition.

where is the valve located? I am wondering if i can do some things to safeguard myself against this problem as i have a contour. Maybe i can create more protection for the device?

It is in the bottom of the engine area. I suggest talking with cng technologies of utah. they have been very helpful to me.

I haven't heard of CNG Technologies of Utah before but I just found their website:

          cngtechnologiesofutah.com

So bakaroma, what did you have them do? Do you know their shop rate? Where are they located?

From what I’ve heard on the compuvalve is that if you do have to replace it you may have a hard time programming the new one. It sounds like a real mess but I’d like to learn more about the situation. You have a good idea wclark1215, lets put our heads together. I know there’s plenty of talent w/in the group… and even if we can’t figure yours out at least we could all get better educated on compuvalves. Actually I haven’t checked yet but there may already be “enlightenment” somewhere on this site. I know there has been talk of putting together a “CNG 101 course” for this site and I’m sure compuvalves would be discussed.

CNG Technologies of Utah (Brandon 801-637-4570) just repaired one of my CNG Fleet Trucks (Compuvalve). He has torn down and cleaned several and does a good job. He is reasonable on his price also! Call Him BEFORE you call the Ford Dealer.

Their shop rate is $60/hour $200 for a compuvalve clean and flush whether it works when they finish or not. He claims a 70% succes rate.
