When I go to the members list it shows 1983 members, 17 shy of 2000, why is that?

I know that the membership list does not list banned users so I expect it does not show deleted users as well. This is only a quick guess on my part.

Only 19 users have been banned. There has to be some else that keeps them from showing up in the user list.

The total count of users in the data base as of this posting is 2222 which is what's displayed everywhere except on the Members Listing. We'll have to see if we can find out why they don't show up in that list.

Update: I figured it out. We have 211 users that are waiting e-mail verification and 19 banned. That's 230 + 1993 = 2223 which is the current count as I post this update. All the number check out.

Also, all but a few of the banned members are spammers. We have fortunately not had to ban many members for TOS voliations.

When we find forum spam it is better to ban the user than to delete the user. Banning stops the IP address from accessing the forums, whereas to delete the user would allow the spammer to once again register and repeat.

It seems that when I look at whose online here the guests outnumber members by 8 to 1, sometimes more. If they'd join in we'd be at 10,000 in no time.
