2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0lL CNG Fuel 54k worth???

Im a dealer in McHenry, IL. I just purchased a white 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Regular cab longed with the 6.0L 8cyl engine with only 54k actual miles with clean no accident Carfax to prove it. It had absolutely no rust and runs absolutely perfect. Ive never purchased anything like this and was wondering what it may be worth and if anyone is interested in purchasing? Seems like a great truck. That model year was toward the end of GM's run with bi-fuel trucks before they re-started the program again in 2012. They are known as solid performers. The first question a buyer will have is when does the CNG tank (cylinder) expire? Check the label. It was probably a 15 year life tank, so you are knocking on the door of expiration and they cannot be re-certified. Replacement tanks can be expensive ($2k or so), and it requires technical skill as CNG pressures can be deadly. Does the truck run OK in CNG mode?

Well ... John has a good point about the tank expiring soon (or already expired) especially since it is dedicated. Most of the bi-fuel vehicles with expired tanks are out there operating on Gasoline only these days but the dedicated CNG vehicles die a quicker death. New tank gives you 15 more years (maybe more if you get a tank certified for more than 15 years) as John stated. I'd really like to hear about the cost and time you need to spend converting it to a bi-fuel or gasoline vehicle. Many people on this forum (and others) have pontificated this idea and some have attempted to start this conversion but I have not heard of anyone successfully completing it. If someone had successfully accomplished this, they would be bragging to the heavens and probably not providing their financials on this. Lots of people converted from gasoline only to bi-fuel but nobody that I know of has completed the change from dedicated CNG to gasoline. I'm sure it could be done (fuel filler receptacle/neck, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, tank mounting brackets and hardware, fuel line mounting hardware and filter, evaporative emissions equipment, fuel rail, injectors, wiring harness changes, ECM update or change, and other) with enough will power but I don't think the cost and time make sense. My recommendation; tanks are already expired or close to it so get a new tank then you could sell it with no issues and good for a while. I'm curious, as a dealer are you allowed to sell a vehicle with expired tanks since the tanks would not meet DOT requirements? I'm not asking to be a jerk here, I'm just wondering if there are any restrictions on dealers for this. I personally believe having a brain dead time-out (date) on a tank results in a lot of good tanks getting tossed (ex. 15 year old vehicle was rarely used (50,000 miles), garaged, and in no accidents - tank is probably safer than a vehicle with 400,000 miles, only 10 years old and not garaged). Regardless, tanks have an expiration date not a cycle time or usage. This is another conversation that has garnered some debate in the past that I will not revisit.

The best deals I got were vehicles with CNG system issues or expired tanks. Used dedicated CNG vehicles I've purchased in the past were purchased for less than 50% of the comparable gasoline version. My experience.

I have a red 2005 Chevy Silverado 4x4 dedicated CNG. I bought it about 5 years ago in real good shape with 64k miles. It sold at auction for $ 3,000 I bought it from the auction winner for $ 6,500. It has been a very reliable truck. .
