i would have loved to grab a couple of those GSA cars, and one or two vans....and did bid, but....awfully strong prices, don't you think! Does anyone know if federal tax credit is available on used vehicles? I see that on-line sellers say state and federal tax credits are available for used vehicles, but my accountant says credits are based on when vehicle is first placed in use, and not my first use.

IMHO, for those prices I'd would rather get used GX's, anything higher buying new makes more sense.

At some point you've got to factor in some repair costs.

Yeah seriously. I remember when you could get those cavaliers for like 5k. That was about 6 months ago. What gives?

Yes, they have gone up at GSA auctions the last few months (~$1-3k)

I believe the federal credit is only for the original new purchase. States vary, but in UT it was the first person to register the vehicle with the state and submit the state credit paperwork.

so my 1991 LNG pickup that I purchased from DOE for 1000.00 would qualify in Utah? What is the credit? May explain why a CNG car that had rolled also sold.

We were selling Cavaliers for $5k back in October. It looks like those days are over now.

Glad to see that eveyone is helping Uncle Sam get top dollar for them. They were bringing less with a few public buyers and independent dealers buying and selling them. The general public is giving full retail, or more at these sales now than if they bought them from resellers a few months ago. The cheap CNG vehicles are gone and they aren't coming back. If people wanted to keep them cheap, they wouldn't be talking about getting them at auction to everybody on a public forum. Now what you have is everyone going in there and bidding them up to these big prices. That makes them less affordable for those with more limited budgets. Let's face it, the cat is out of the bag, and it won't go back to the way it was. Get ready for $15,000 Cavaliers.

                        Ida,

The historic tax credit in Utah was based on the incremental cost of the vehicle when new. Next year the laws will be more realistic as they index off the purchase price of the vehicle (35% or $2500, whichever is less) - See http://www.cngchat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1056

Good idea to search salvage auctions for CNG fords. Maybe there are a few working compuvalves out there at a fraction of the dealer cost.
