  • Mercedes announces Sprinter NGT (cng truck / van)

    Hello all,

Appears in Europe that Mercedes has announced a cng version of Sprinter truck / van called the Sprinter NGT. See at:

Hope that this one comes to USA as engine is 1.8 ltr 4 cyl that would get great mileage. In addition, Sprinter NGT will be bi-fuel so it has gasoline as backup fuel. Wow, this product alone could revolutionize light business travel here in USA . . . and create demand for more public cng refueling stations!!

I think they are only approved for the European market. We have them in the Netherlands as well. Just like a few dozen other NGVs.

This is the exact type of vehicle I'm looking for! Gosh I hope they're in US production soon. I know there are some electric plug in sprinters that were used in the NY times delivery fleet. They haven't been made available to the public yet however.
What do you guys suggest for an equivalent in the meantime? Early 2000 cargo van being sold at GSA Auctions?

The GSA cargo van might be a good bet. Not as large as a Sprinter, but a lot less money. Just picked up a 2001, 3/4 cargo van with 23K miles from GSA. I paid a little more then I would have liked ($5600) but it runs nice. If you are looking try to get a newer van (GM 2003 and up) as it has the six litre engine and is fuel injected. The older vans are 5.7 litre and a fumigation system for the CNG. The system is a little less trouble then the older Cavaliers as it does not use the GMS/MCV--kind of a half way system between that at fuel injection.

A lot less money for the GSA cargo van is right! Plus I bet the Van can tide me over until I can save up for a sprinter or freightliner CNG. What kind of gge does your 2001 3/4 cargo van get?

Re: Mercedes announces Sprinter NGT (cng truck / van)

                      Hi All,

... the Sprinter NGT isn't very new. There was al least since 2006 already available, but Mercedes doesn't really took the chance.

As I was looking forward a light-Truck, these CWS-Trucks met originally my demands. I've seen one of them (at my Company delivering towels), I asked the CWS to sell me one without branding. This was April 2008.

Disappointing: they did not. These cars were all Iveco 60CNG ... then I took a standard Iveco 50CNG.

The Moral: I suppose Mercedes now want the fleet of abaout 100 CWS-Cars back again

                      regards

There are some CNG Sprinters running in Asia (basically Singapore and Hong Kong) and Australia, but with a 1.8L 4-banger I believe the Average Joe would reject it. At least a 2.8L engine, or a 3.0L V6, would be more suitable to the american market.
