  • Telsa / Ariel / Jay Leno

Jay Leno test drives all his cars right down the street from my shop here in Shadow Hills. Its a winding road up a mountain that is perfect for this and we also use it from time to time.

I have seen him around and have talked with him a couple of times when he is stopped or at a local bakery we both go too for some awesome goodies.
Well I was with the family a couple of days ago in my 04 bifuel cavalier and saw him turn left, right in front of me. When the light turned green, I floored it! the little cng cavalier too off so fast I almost felt a kink in my neck
When I reached him at the next red light he was driving one of these.

I asked him if his Telsa was back at the warehouse? He said he did not own one to my surprise, even though he has it posted on his website. It was tough to talk over the loud engine noise and we both had to shout.
He also said the Ariel was MUCH faster and funner to drive. Telsa video and website here.

Find Jay Leno's GarageĀ on NBC.com and the NBC App. Legendary comedian and "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno explores all things automotive.

I saw a Tesla up close at last year's SEMA show. Disappointing. Poor craftmanship, paint so thin that primer showed through, and an interior that rivaled a Chinese 3-wheeler. I tried to ask the rep some questions as to why the car seemed to have shoddy work, but he completely ignored me. So was my email to the website. If this is what they're planning to sell for 6 figures, they'll have a lot of returns to deal with.

How can you complain about a pre-production car? Go sit in a production model and see if the quality is different. Just be glad some manufacturers are willing to show a unfinished product so we can get an idea of what it will look like.

No, they WEREN'T willing to show it to me, that was the point! Both the car and the representative appeared below average. Remember we're talking about a $100,000 car here!

Any idea how Tesla plans to roll this out nationwide?
