You betcha! I saw an electric RAV-4 on the highway today - first time in my life. Supposedly they, and a bunch of other electric cars were taken off market for no apparent reason. What's the story with that?

Re: Electric Rav-4?
Toyota, GM and Ford had to give titles to all the governements that purchased electrics, therefore they couldn't take them back to crush them like the EV-1. So there are electric Ford Rangers, Chevy S-10s and Toyota RAV4s wtill cruising the road. Guys in one of the other threads saw 3 electric Ford Rangers go to auction and sell for $12K+ with ruined interior and dead batteries. I have seen S-10s go for $24K with good batteries.

Re: Electric Rav-4?
The large auto manufacturers were "dragged kickin-n-screammn" and made some vehicles to comply with the now expired " California electric vehicle" mandates. I can assure you none wanted to build ANY .
Toyota went the route of modification of an existing chassis , as did most ,except GM. Some others used existing platforms of cars not normally sold in the us. Some used "Flex-fuel" and cng vehicles, to provide equivelent results of electric , by avoiding or reducing use of gasoline .
Toyota did not want a public relations disaster like GM. So they will renew leases of vehicles in good condition , and still provide service and support .
The leased cars are full maintenance included. The " owned " cars enjoy $$$$$ prices for parts. Many of the returned Rav -4 electric vehicles were not destroyed, and Toyota maintains it's own boneyard of inop rav 4 elecrics , as parts doners .
Under public pressure , Ford sold used , leased , Ranger electric trucks , rather than destruction of them , and IIRC , the s-10 electric trucks were from an up-fitter.
The saga of electric cars in the last 10 years is full of sad stories . IMO ,they WILL be mainstream in the future , about when the we will have to return nuclear powerplants for electric generation.

The MSRP was $42,000; but in California, ZIP-grant rebates of $9,000, decreasing in 2003 to $5,000, and a $4,000 credit from the Internal Revenue Service brought the price down to a more palatable $29,000 ($33,000 for some 2003 deliveries), including the home charger.
