  • Rav4 ev on ebay

Rav4 EV Will probably sell for over $50K... What ever it sells for you can buy a used Tahoe or Suburban cng for around 20K and fill up at home for a $1 a gallon with the the over 25K in savings you and have a bigger vehicle and f. Don't get me wrong I like the Rav EV (a friend of mine has one) and I would buy one if it was cheaper, but it doesn't make too much financial sense when the cost goes too high with only a 120 mile range, and replacement batteries costing $14,000. You can buy a lot of cheap cng with the cost savings.

Try $29,000 for the oem nmh battery pack. But it is the only practical ev with a track record, service and support still available.

50-60k on e-bay with a fresh oem battery is typical, when you cand find one.

Toyota stated original cost of $64k, and that was ? 8 years ago.

The car takes 6000 watts to charge for 5-6 hours, thats about $5.00 of electricity to go 100 miles, or 5 cents a mile, not that much better than a GX.

I thought all these were confiscated by Toyota when they came off lease.

Toyota followed up and allowed some to be bought:

In March of 2002, due to a shift in corporate policy, the Toyota RAV4-EV was made available for sale to the general public, but only 328 of them. No one knows for certain what prompted Toyota to change their position on the RAV4-EV, since they had long since fulfilled their obligations under the MOA with the California Air Resources Board's zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) mandate via its fleet lease program

The MSRP was $42,000; but in California, ZIP-grant rebates of $9,000, decreasing in 2003 to $5,000, and a $4,000 credit from the Internal Revenue Service brought the price down to a more palatable $29,000 ($33,000 for some 2003 deliveries), including the home charger.

A friend of mine has 2 Rav4 EV's. He loves them, but besides the limited range a lot of the EV infrastructure (AKA free public recharging stations) have almost all disappeared.

Why oh why would some one want to pay $89K for an old Rav4 when for an additional $11K you can get a Telsa.

I guess the old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted" is true.

                          Re: Rav4 ev on ebay

I own both CNG cars and a Rav4 EV. The Rav4 is by far the cheapest of the group to operate. Battery life is pretty much an non issue. Many of the oldest Rav4's are still running at over 10 years and over 150,000 miles on their original batteries. Thanks to Chevron Oil, who bought the NiMH battery patents and the forbid their use in electric vehicles worldwide, there are no replacement batteries available. So when they fail, the car sits until (or if) a replacement design comes out. Using my current electric and gas rates to drive 100 miles in my GX (which is more fuel efficient the the Cavaliers) it costs me $4.15 (includes compression costs but not FM rebuild cost). To drive the Rav4 EV the cost is $1.63. Therefore the GX is 2.5 times the cost per mile to operate. Were I live the electric rates are a bit lower (time of day metering) and the gas rates a bit higher then the national average. I have logged the data on all my vehicles for over three years and thats the way it is. As far as holding its value, the Cavaliers have nearly tripled in resale price, the Rav has nearly doubled, and the Honda (newest) has gone up only marginally in resale price---can't say that about my Dodge. BTW--there was a little fraud in the E-bay auction as the high bidder was trying to find out his competitors proxy bid before retracting it. The auction ended before the retraction and the seller got stiffed. There was a legitiment bid for up to 89K for the car---the next highest bid was 69,800. This car will most likely go in the mid 70's to low 80's once things get worked out. It's amazing how fast things change when gasoline sails through the four dollar mark

If you don't need a 4 seat awd suv and can go with 2 seats and a 200 mi range the Tesla is better for the $$$. Lion EV has Lithium replacement batteries for the Rav4 for 14K. The Li batteries should give a good increase in range. The Tesla uses Lithiums and states a 220 mile range. I also was reading up on the new Lithium Phosphate batteries which should be even better than standard lithiums. The Rav4 EV is also going to be a collector car.
