Just about anything that can be added to the regular Civic to add horsepower, such as a Cold-Air intake, K&N air filter, Catback exaust, etc will do the same for the GX. One of our group members is working on a super charger for the car... what's up with that OJ? Just remember, horsepower usually comes at the expense of fuel economy.

I put a K&N air filter on my '99 GX and noticed an increase in performance and mileage gain of 1-2 mpg highway.
I've been wondering if anyone has done any exhaust mods?
Does anyone know if there are any smog-legal aftermarket exhaust options?

Any Cat-Back exhaust is smog legal. Have fun choosing one there's probably about 25 companies making cat back systems for civics.

Not really an upgrade but has anyone noticed a weird power-curve on the GX. Maybe it's the
trany but feathering the gas works alot better for my then flooring it. This is also my first car with drive-by-wire which is prob. a factor. In my ol' Camero flooring it worked great.

Has anyone with a 06-11 GX done any mods like these on their car?
I am looking at full cold air intake(like the takeda) and maybe catback/rear exhaust.
Looking to improve speed and either increase or maintain mileage...
I will be changing to light 15" alloys with light/lrr tires first.
Also will be adding the underbody panels from the Hybrid model...

I'm okay with the adequate performance of my 2010 GX, given it's intended usage. I am not expecting substantial improvements in performance via exhaust and/or intake mods.

For me the change from 2002 GX to 2010 GX gave me a significant performance boost, with more usable torque and more responsive transmission.

Honda has a huge engineering and research budget when developing each new generation of engine. If any of that stuff was effective, it would be on the car from the factory. This is not the 1960's or 70's when the big 3 automakers would produce inferior products, only intended to last 3 or 4 years to save a few bucks per car. cars are not disposable, the average age is now over 9 years, 50% over the 1990's . Competition in auto engineering is fierce. 20 - 30 years ago we all laughed at Hundai , Kia, and even Mazda .Now they are all world class. If you make crap, you will go Bankrupt when the economy is slow.

P.S. Most Hybrids have LLR tires from the factory. They do slightly increase mileage. most owners do not buy LLR when getting replacement tires. They don't cost that much more but the they DO have inferior traction. No issue on acceleration, but how about wet braking performance.

Just my 2 cents worth. I'm an old fart , who wasted lot's of $ on nearly worthless mod's and upgrades on vehicles when I was a youngster.

Good points about major automakers such as Honda not leaving much horsepower on the table today, given the expected level of reliability and fuel efficiency demanded today.

When I look at the common cars in my garage and see so much technology that used to associated with racing cars, it's amazing how it's become mainstream in production cars. Stuff like direct injection, intercooled turbo, high compression/DOHC, 6/7+ speed trannys, 4 wheel discs, etc.

put a k&n Typhoon intake on my first 2012 civic natgas and the mileage tanked, by at least 6 MPG sure was peppier though (throttle response was too addictive)

on my 2nd 2012 i have only done suspension (shocks, springs, sway bars), big brakes and HF under body panels, much happier with those choices

i heard jackson racing was working on a supercharger for the GX/NatGas but it never came to fruition

here is the kit for the standard 1.8 civic http://jacksonracing.com/jackson-rac...stem-released/ technically this will all bolt up but tuning is the problem (im local to jackson racing and called them about donating my car but they didnt seem very interested)

short ram intakes, and CAI that are metal will hurt since they suck in hot air and or conduct heat...Noticed Volant has a full CAI and they dont use metal, emailed to double check about GX(though it says yes online)...I one on my 2011 kia soul(i was the prototype car for them), and power/responsiveness was quite a bit better than stock(its an Auto also). I want to get my AC stumble looked at first before i put any aftermarket on tho..

I'm sure they would be happy to do the project if you also donated about $20k or so for parts, tec. and engineering time. L.O.L. Freebies at speed shops are few and far between

no, but i did offer to pay for all parts, and i was risking my brand new 27,000$ civic and risking a blown engine on my own dime......LOL not exactly asking for freebies hahahah


all that needs to be done is tuning ... its not a matter of time or even money (for initial development) its marketability......theres not that many civic gx/natgas vehicles out there (compared to gasoline powered civics) and even fewer who are willing to spend 5k on a SC kit for their nat gas civic

History has shown that the R18 engine just doesn't get much from bolt ons. The 8th gen (06-11) community begged and begged for Hondata to release a flashpro for the R18 and it barely made a difference so no one bought it. You're definitely able to buy an 8th gen flashpro and see what a tuner can do for you, since bolt-ons without tuning is kinda pointless. Maybe you'll make 15 hp after spending $2k+ on intake, header, exhaust and flashpro.

Real world example: I put an 8th gen Si's axleback on my 9th gen -- no diff (of course). Looks neat though.
