    I'm looking at spicing up (a little BAM) our GX without making it look like a fast and furious ride. I also wanted to do this so others could see that an environmentally friendly car can be a nice ride as well. So I decided on the Si wheels to keep a somewhat stock and low key look; unfortunately for me the brake calipers are rubbing into the Si wheel.

    I want to retain the stock look so it looks as if I have 3 choices, one is to grind/machine the clearance required, use .25 thick spacers all around or upgrade to the Si brake calipers. The latter is the preferred choice as it stands, does anyone know if th Si calipers are a direct fit on the GX?

    I've attached a few pics of the before and after the Si wheels mounted and where the calipers are rubbing. IMHO she looks pretty nice with the Si wheels

    BTW, I wasn't sure if this was the right forum for this inquiry. Is it only for audio upgrades? I apologize in advance if it is.

    Like your green green machine

    I think it makes sense to have this forum for all kinds of GX upgrades, so have changed the title accordingly. If the other Admins think otherwise we can always change the title back or perhaps start a new forum and move your post over to it.

      I like the change. I think it's appropriate to have an upgrade area to let members show off their cars. It actually makes the GX cooler in some ways.

        Well, that one left my service dept scratching their heads. They say it seems feasible to change to the Si caliper... just no way of confirming that it is possible. I have tried putting the Si wheels on the GX when I put the "Clean Machine"" together and found that they have an offset that doesn't work on any other honda. Certainly the least expensive way to do it is the spacers. Let us know how the project comes out.

          Try http://www.jlbmotorsports.com/index.html

          Unless you are really set on the Si wheels or have already bought them and can't return them, I got my wheels, tires, mounted, balances, valve stems, lugs and locks for $650 cash!

          These guys are a small company that specializes in wheels, they have lots of stuff on clearance and if you pick it up from them direct it gets even cheaper!

            Personally, I'm against the idea of an "open" design alloy rim when you have lowly drum brakes. It looks silly. Granted, having discs on the rear of a front-wheel-drive car is just a marketing gimmick but I still think it looks silly.

            You might look for some Civic Hybrid alloys. They'd fit.

            As for a disk brake upgrade: Anything can be done if you throw enough money at the problem. The question is how much stuff you'd have to swap out to accomplish your goal. You want to ask a parts guy, not a service guy. He can look at the parts diagram and simply follow the parts "in" until the part numbers start matching up.

              One main concern is that most Honda's with 4 whl disc also come with ABS, which drum brake cars don't. Would you wish to simply bypass the ABS system and sensors? The complete ABS upgrade is doable, but what a headache. Not a project I'd want to tackle.

                ...then there must be an error on my '08 window sticker and the Honda GX sales brochure. It says my GX has ABS, and it sure looks like an ABS module under the hood with 4 wheel brake lines attached.

                  The new gen GX has ABS. The earlier bodystyle did not.

                    What is the proper offset that will work for a 2008 GX?

                    Also, what is the maximum recommended wheel size (diameter)?

                    Thanks!

                        Re: 06/07 Civic Si wheels on a GX

                        Well my OEM tires finally wore out at 44K miles. I settled for 06 Acura RSX wheels, it met the budget without breaking the bank

                        Tires I'm running are a touch bigger at 215/55/16 (came with the rims), slightly reduced gas mileage, reduced speedometer reading at 59.2 mph compared to 60mph and Revs per mile at 821.8 compared to OEM reading at 832.6. MPG is reduced somewhat but the handling is GREAT.

                        camryman also sent me a Tire Size Calculator, but I used this site for multiple comparison charts.

                        Not as nice as Scotts' or raskell's S2000 wheels but it'll do for now.

                          @C2sox

                          The correct +1 size compared to the OEM 195/65/15 going to 205/55/16. Depending on your rear wheel offsets, you may get some rubbing on the rear driver inner fender wall with a 215. There is a plastic shield in there that covers the fuel inlet pipe. (It may only rub with rear passengers). If so, adding 5mm spacers solves it.

                            My initial choice was the 205/55/16, but unfortunately the wheels came with the 215/55/16. When I asked the seller he said it was the 205's, he gave me a deal just to get rid of the set from his garage.

                            Luckily I don't get any rubbing at all with passengers in the back seat. But I may go your route the next go around and get the 225/50/16 with the 5mm spacers. I've been enjoying the better handling with the wider and better tires

                            Here's a snap shot of the tire differences using the tire size calculator..

                              @c2sox,

                              The handling and ride are noticeably improved, even with the 205's. When my current set wears our, I will be trying the 225/50/16's in the front unless they rub. If so, they will go on the rear for sure. (Notice from your chart that the 225/50/16 is essentially the same +1 size as 205/55/16) Same number of Rev's per mile.
